“Probably could have been better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

We tried this restaurant today based on reviews. Got there very early and were seated promptly with menus and drink orders taken. The one waitress in the restaurant came back to take our orders, and then we waited quite a while before she came back after we had been waiting about 40 minutes and said they were having issues with the panini machine and it would be a few minutes more. In the meantime, the small restaurant became full, and we finally got our sandwiches. They were good and the little side salad was even better. I felt the sandwiches were a bit on the pricey side, but they were large enough to share. The one waitress could have used some help but maybe that's how they have survived during the "summer season" in Venice, when is the quiet season. We probably won't be going back as there are so many restaurants in Venice where we have eaten and received very reliable service. Too bad because I would love to try some of their other items on the menu which looked very good.

“Le Petit Bistrot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

The "early bird" gets the best deal at this restaurant! There is a special prix fixe in the off season (until Oct. 1st) from 4:00 to 5:30 which includes an appetizer, an entree and a glass of wine for only $20.
We enjoyed the country-style pate and mixed garden salad for appetizer choices, then pan-fried flounder and chicken fricassee "Normande" for entrees. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented - a feast for both the palate and the eyes!!! Authentic French cuisine, generous portions and delicious!
The service was discreet, yet efficient. The decor is what you might expect from a bistro in France - nothing glitzy, but totally functional, clean and comfortable. We appreciated that Eric stopped by our table to introduce himself and to thank us for our patronage.

“Authentic French”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Tried this on a whim and pleasantly surprised. Very friendly host happy to introduce menu. I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked with a great texture served on a bed of bechamel spinach. Salad was fresh lightly coated with house dressing.

Best of all was the duck froie gras, lightly seared on both sides but rare in the center... Accompanying cabernet was also quite good.

Great to have a real French bistro in Venic

“France comes to Venice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Just returned from Paris where I had onion soup every day. Le Petit Bistrot is better than any I had there. Additionally, The Island Salad with creamy parmesan chicken is possibly the best salad composed on planet Earth. I wish I could go there every day

“Used to be Good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Years ago this used to be my mother's favorite French onion soup spot. We went recently and had a pretty lousy time all the way around. We were seated quickly and that's where the positive ends. The waitress took our orders, brought our water, brought out our food then never came back again. There was a man standing at the counter near the entrance talking to someone else so loudly that we couldn't hear each other. The cook in the back was also yelling at somebody else. The noise level was awful. You could immediately tell that nobody who worked there cared about anything concerning a quality visit.

The French onion soup was possibly the worst soup dish I have eaten. There was no flavor at all. It was under cooked. The bread in the soup was flavorless. We all had to douse it in salt to eat it. Overall the best part of the soup was the cheese.

The little sandwiches were pretty bland also. Basically pancetta and cheese on a French baguette with olive oil splashed on top. Vey dry and tough to chew and swallow especially when you have no water because our server never came back until we were done. I didn't bother complaining because it simply wasn't worth my time or effort given they seemed not to care from the beginning.

Very noisy. Bland food. Bad service. Not returning.
