“This place was wonderful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2007

Stayed here for a quiet retreat over a long weekend. The hotel was recently redone and the room was beautiful. The staff at the front desk could not have been friendlier. Fabulous views of the beach & the gulf. I think it would have been a different environment during Spring Break, but you'd have to have different expectations during that time of year. All in all, it is a great location and the room was very nice and clean.

Fantastic location, right on the beach. I believe all rooms face the gulf. Room was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. This isn't a high end hotel but is is nice. Some negatives: Most or all rooms open to outside hallway. One night I witnessed high street noise. The internet password printed in the room are wrong.

If you are looking for a terrific priced hotel right on the beach that is comfortable and clean this is the place for you.

We stayed at the Bilmar Beach Resort from Dec 8th to 15th, 2007. We had booked the double room in the 3 story building but on arrivale decided to upgrade to the tower for an extra $20.00 a night which has 8 stories and a balcony overlooking the ocean and huge beautiful white sand beach. The room had been completely updated a few years ago and was definitely above average for the price. It included a small fridge, stove, micowave, coffe maker, safe and just about everything you would need for the week. Granite counters in the bath and kitchen area and very spacious as well. The view is hard to beat with that perfect clean white sand that goes on forever. There are two pools, a hot tub and two reetsuarants, Sloppy Joe's and Bassie's. We ate at both once and Sloppy Joes was by far the best. The hotel location is dead centre of Treasure island, so you can walk to many restaurants and activities. The hotel is being convertaed - at least part, to a condo/hotel, so there are some units for sale in the mid $200,000 range. The buildings are about 40 plus years old and show the age in some areas, but mostly renoivated very nicely. for the price, this is a good place to stay. We were there at the slowest time and were able to park right out front, but I suspect when busy, you might have to park across the road - but still very close.

  • Liked — Great room and view for the price
  • Disliked — Front desk not terribly pleasant all the time. A bit tired in places

I have just stayed at the Bilmar with my husband and two daughters aged 13 and 10.
The accomodation is well presented, clean and spacious.
Our room had a patio door straight on to the beach (higher rooms had beach front balconies). We had a fridge, microwave and coffee perculator, in a little kitchen area which was very useful for quick and easy breakfast and lunch.
The view from the rooms is stunning, it really did feel like paradise.
The hotel has two pools and a hot-tub. Our daughters were in the nearest pool (just metres away) from dawn until dusk, whilst we lounged about on plentiful sunbeds, facing the beach and sipping drinks from Sloppy Joes, which is literally steps away. (Pool towels are provided)
It turned out to be perfect for re-charging ourselves after a week at Disney.
Across the road is Walgreens (chemist and supermarket), and plenty of restaurants/bars. Try Middle Grounds Grill for a lovely meal and fab service.
There is hard core shopping within a few minutes drive, and some beautiful beaches and keys in the surrounding area.

  • Liked — location on beach
  • Disliked — Our door opened straight onto carpark.

Parking is a little tricky on busy days, but it worked out overall. The lobby looked clean and up to date. The staff was friendly and personable. While on the way to our room the outside apperace of the place seemed a little retro and ran down. Once we got to our room. Ahhhhh nice. Everything looked newly renovated and clean. A perfect view of the beach and the ocean. Quiet at night, woke up to the sound of the ocean. Decent dining on-site with live music. Treasure island itself is a bit shabby had to drive to St. Pete, or Clearwater beaches to find some entertainment and fun. Was able to connect to wireless internet. Pool was clean and nice and a good temperature. On-site bar as well, seemed nice, but didn't stop by. Across from a Walgreens in case you need a little last minute sunscreen, snacks, or cheap sunglasses. Down the street from a Waffel House for those cheap and quick breakfast urges. My only complaint was Treasure Island itself and it's lack of atmosphere and interesting places to see and dine. Which is in no-way the hotel's fault.

  • Liked — The view and the sound of the ocean at night and every morning.
  • Disliked — It's location to the exciting beach life, entertainment, and dining.

This was my husband and I's second trip to the Bilmar and I was not impressed. We had only stayed a weekend last time. This was for an entire week. Our room was not ready upon arrival, and every time we checked we were told "10 more minutes". Finally after 2 hours of killing time, it was ready. The room was ok. One plus, the view was fabulous, we were on the 7th floor facing the gulf.
Parking is a nightmare, the parking lot is small and spaces are every which way. Also, on Friday night there was a "valet" who put orange cones in the spaces as soon as a car left. The sign said parking was for Sloppy Joes, ( pay $5 and get a gift card good for $5 at Sloppy Joes)which was attached to the hotel. Oh, and BTW, DON"T eat here. The food was not very good and overpriced. Also, the wait staff was slow and rude. Our next trip to Treasure Island will include a stay someplace else!

We drove into Treasure Island looking for accomodation and liked the look of the Bilmar (also had offer voucher from one of the travel guides) reception staff were helpful and showed us 2 different standard of rooms. (we always ask to see the room prior to confirming, we have this notion that you'll always get the best available room) We chose a room that had a door opening straight on to the beach! Unfortunately we couldn't leave by this door because the lock was broken and it was secured by wedging a length of pipe behind the door! Not perfect but not too much of a hassle. Apart from that the room was good and kept clean.
Had a meal at Sloppy Joe's after settling in which was good, apart from a bunch of loud American guys sat at the bar using bad language, I don't think they would have appreciated a complaint, they seemed pretty well tanked up!
Pool areas were a little enclosed but the hot-tub was good. Staff were all very friendly and we had a very enjoyable stay to end our tour of Florida.
Tip - both restaurants on the board walk at John's Pass serve excellent seafood!
