My wife travelled to Treasure Island recently with our then 16 month old daughter. We stayed at Sunset Vistas for its location on the beach and its age - which is about 7-8 months old.

Sunset Vistas is a great family condo with all the amenities you'll need (i.e. washer & dryers, full kitchen, two full bathrooms, etc.).

Other reviewers complained about the lack of in-suite cleaning (which is about every other day) or staff around the property. Bear in mind that this is not a full service hotel - but a condo alternative - which is just like renting a condo from an agency.

That being said, if you want a laid back stay on a great beach strip - with the right amount of casual Florida charm - this place is great.

Tips - bring your own beach towels, umbrellas and rent a car to get around.

We took the family for a trip for DADDY"S DAY, and this was the place. We are a family 5, we have 3 kids ages 2,3,and 7. When we 1st pulled up to the hotel we said, WOW!! it was very pretty, they took great pride on the outside we couldn't wait until we saw the room. We got there early and was able to check in before 4pm so that was a plus. When we got to the room it was VERY clean and nicely decorated. The VIEW was BREATH taking!!! We stayed on the 6th floor and saw sooooooo much water. There was 2 rooms and a couch bed it sleeps 6 comfortablely. The only thing was the 2nd bedroom doesn't have a TV, so we just moved the one from ours to theirs. It had a washer/dryer which was nice cause we used it to dry the suits and towels for later that day. What we loved the most about the hotel was "The Kiddie Pool" the younger kids feel in love they where able to swim and not worry about the big kids, and the water going over their heads. It was also over relaxing for us (adults) because there is a spa in the kiddie area and it is all FENCED in and also the kids can't get out unless they were able to reach the high lock to get out of the pool area. there was also more then enough chairs and tables w/ umberellas for the kiddie area. The kiddie pool is zero entry and only a 1 1/2 feet deep and shaped like a fish. Tha adult pool is also great for the older kids you can bring your own floats and have a ball. The beach is only a few feet from the hotel and it was good . THE KIDS LIKED THE POOLS BETTER. We liked it so much we have already made our next trip back with the WHOLE FAMILY!!!! ps there is a great ice cream shake right next door, it tastes GREAT!!!!!! There is a lot to do in just a short drive to John' Pass- its shops and food on the pier.

I spent six nights at the condo with my two daughters aged 17 and 20. It was a family reunion with about 15 people. Each family had their own condo, and we were all together on the same floor.
The condo is clean. Nice new kitchen, ceramic tile floor throughout, except for the two bedrooms. The bedrooms are small. They contain a queen size bed, and there is not much room besides the bed. The carpet should be cleaned or replaced. It was dirty.Bed was okay. Sheet count was probably 250 thread count. Not very soft. Adequate closet and drawer space although there were only a couple of odd hangers in the closets. We went to the Dollar store and bought our own.
There is a little cafe that is open each day until 5:00. We had breakfast and some lunches there.
The only thing I would suggest to the management is to have the employees wear gloves! I saw them making breakfasts, lunches, then taking money from people, working on the computerized cash register....kind of gross not to wash hands/ wear gloves when making food and then checking out people with the register.
Pool was nice. Seemed very crowded some days. Once I saw people sneaking in from the side. There is no way for the property to really know who is from Sunset Vistas. You just go in. No checking.....I wonder how many people sneak in on a daily basis. I saw a couple of other motels nearby that did not have pools, so I imagine a lot of people just walk in if they want.
I actually said something to an employee, and he replied," There is no way for us to stop that. It is what it is."
I think if you are paying to stay at Sunset, then you should have first priority for beach chairs etc. Lots of times, they were all taken with towels covering the chairs, but no people on the chairs. The pool closed promptly at 10:00 each night.
Beach was beautiful and close to property. Not much walking to get right onto the beach. We bought some chairs at a nearby store and gave them to other guests when we left.
Did not rent a car.....Bats taxi is very cheap! Or the trolleys were also available. Overall, I had a great trip-mainly because I was there with my extended family. This place seems great for younger families. I saw a lot of younger families with children. There is a kiddie pool too, but it is separate from the other pool.
I liked that since my kids are older now. This property is pretty nice compared to some of the other dumpy looking motels nearby. It is six stories high, and there is a pretty view from the balcony. Quiet at night. If you are looking for fun nightlife or a fun young single crowd, I would say this is not the place. But if you like a quieter place, then this would be fine.

We stayed at Sunset Vistas June 30 thru July 7, 2007, 2 adults and 4 kids. Upon arrival, check in went smoothly, although they did not honor our room request that we made back in March. The room, itself, was filthy. The floors were dirty in the kitchen, the sliding glass doors in both the family room and master bedroom were smudged with dirty fingerprints and grime, and the glass coffee tables were dirty. The front desk and cleaning service had differing opinions regarding when things should be cleaned. We were told by the front desk that on a daily basis the room would be restocked with towels and trash would be emptied. Halfway through our stay, the room would get a thorough cleaning. However, the cleaning service told us that towel restocking and trash emptying would be done every other day. They also told us that the room would not have a mid-week cleaning after all. There were many times that our room keys did not work, and we were not the only ones. Our neighbors had the same problem. We were assigned a parking spot with our room number clearly posted on it. However, on three separate occasions someone was in our spot. When we complained to the front desk, they said that there was nothing that they could do about it. So much for the “unauthorized vehicles will be towed” signs. In addition to losing our parking spot several times, the parking lot was full of “guest” vehicles almost every day. This made it very difficult to park or pull out of the parking spot. There is minimal security and anyone can park on the property at any time. At the end of the week, I’m not really sure how this happened, but the pool had to be cleared due to, um, a Baby Ruth bar, if you know what I mean. Yes, incredibly gross and no one cleaned the pool afterwards. For the base accommodations, this place was fine. It does have a great view and it’s right on the beach. Plus, the center courtyard is beautifully maintained. Also, the Tiki Bar on the beach is very nice and Lisa, one of the bartenders, was great to talk to. However, for the price, I was expecting a lot more. The general manager was never onsite and no one at the front desk was authorized to make up for any of our inconveniences. Maybe I’ve just grown used to expecting more for my money. Especially when I pay this much.

Just got back from a 6 night stay at Sunset Vistas in Treasure Island. June 26-July 2 Age range 14 to 80

Postives: all extended family able to get together in 5 seperate condos on the same floor, beautiful views from the balcony. Units on the 6th floor South side, easy acess to trolly and cabs (cheap), very easy acess to beach ( right out the back), nice staff on the property (security guard), great cafe for quick breakfast or lunch, good size kitchen, washer and dryer in room, safe for teens to go off on their own , quiet, great for families, decent pool, lots choices for meals outside off property, fresh towels every other day

Negatives: Very sarcastic/rude front desk young lady, rude male bartender at Tiki bar (consisteny acted like he was doing me a favor-maybe I didn't get his sense of humor) some of the rooms were dirty ( carpet needs to be replaced), small bedrooms, uncomfortable beds/sheets, pull out couch very uncomfortable, no swimming after 10PM, no place to hang out with your own drink on the property ( you must purchase from the Tiki bar), not enough glasses/cup in rooms, no cleaning in room the entire time we were there ( we knew this when we booked), always on the hunt for garbage bags, NO HANGERS ( how weird is that?),

I would stay there again if I was able to prepare a little bit more with supplies for the rooms. I flew, so no extra room in my suitcase. Be sure to not expect the staff to take care of you. Kind of on your own. Although the rooms were tight we were not in them much. Some of my group had 2 in a 2 bedroom and I had 5. The more people the tighter it felt. Being directly on the beach is a HUGE plus!
