We recently stayed at the Surf with our kids and another couple and thier kids. We were leary after reading the reviews but we are glad we chose this place. It is set up just like a regular condo, but run like a hotel in the sense that they rent the condos on a daily basis. We did find out that we were on our own after hours and did have to buy our own TP and soap once we ran out of what was provided, we didnt mind. True is is not very big but we were only there for a week so it was perfect and it was certainly much larger than any other regular hotel we have ever been. We have done the two bed in the same room with the kids, one bath, tv hotel and will never do that again. At the Surf we had two beds and two baths right on the beach. Our master bedroom had access to the balcony and our own private bath and a TV. The kids (teenagers) had their own bathroom which made our stay that much more enjoyable. There was a pullout sleeper sofa if we needed but didnt use. There was a TV, coffee table and sofa and chair in the living room and a small dining table inbetween the kitchen and living area that was perfect for our breakfast and lunch. For dinners, we always ate out. Unlike other places that give you a mini fridge, microwave and a sink, this place had a full kitchen with granite countertops and wood cabnits, full size fridge, micro and stove. Yes the beach is very wide and does take about 5 minutes to get to the water but waking up in the morning looking on the the gulf waters was breathtaking. Those other reviews said there was not much to do, eat or drink but with the help of the front desk gentleman, we found 5 great bars and about 10 different restaurants right there on Treasure Island. It is true that there is not much to do on Treasure Island beside the beach, but there were boat and wave runners, bikes and moped right across the street, with Johns Pass 1/2 mile away boasting shops, restaurants, parasailing and more. The grocery stores were within 2 miles from our place and again with the help of the front desk person, he informed us of all the great things to do in the greater St. Pete/Tampa/Clearwater area like the museums and the Pier and Ybor City. We will certainly be back to visit the Surf.
