I'll get to Bazzie's Beach Bar in a second; first full disclosure. I do live in Treasure Island, but have no other connection to the town. Nor am I in business here. So my review is objective.
I shout out to Seattle because, in June, Alaska Airlines begins daily nonstop flights to Tampa. The beach at Treasure Island is a short drive from Tampa International Airport. So our friends in the Northwest will soon have an alternative to Hawaii and Mexico, for sun and sand, when they just can't stand another moment of winter.
Bazzie's Beach Bar, in the Bilmar Hotel, is, you guessed it, on the beach. What a beach it is too. Gentle surf and white shelly sand, facing West, which means the sun sets into the Gulf of Mexico. And Bazzie's is a perfect vantage point, not just for viewing sunsets but also kites.
Why kites? On any given day in the winter months, the sky above Bazzie's is likely to be filled with them. The beach is so wide that folks fly dozens and dozens of kites without getting in the way of each other or the swimmers and worshippers. It's a delightful spectacle.
Bazzie's isn't fancy or luxurious. But it offers indoor/outdoor seating, friendly service, a long menu, and the food is very good. For instance, there's a flounder sandwich, fried, blackened or grilled. The fish has never been frozen.
It's great to have lunch outside, under an umbrella In February, and watch the world go by on the paved beach walk. Then have a little stroll yourself. That's the life!
