“Spend all day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

Ft De Soto park is the best place to spend the day when you're in the area. This year they started a $5 entrance fee. Some people complain but its a small price to pay for such a well maintained area. Its good all day, you can come and go - but why would you want to ?
We go to the North beach for shelling, swimming and sunning. We've been there at dawn, sunset and everytime in between. We've been kayaking, rented bikes, toured the fort, watched the board sailers at East Beach and walked the piers. Too much sun ? Tables and grills under the trees. Theres a snack, usual food and plenty of restrooms. And a dog park if you need. When you tire of the boardwalks and strip malls along Gulf Blvd, come here for true relaxation.

“Paw playground and beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012

It is not easy to find a beach that allows dogs. Fort De Soto has a wonderful stretch of beach just for dogs as well as separate fenced in playgrounds for small and large dogs. There is even a hose to clean the salt water off your dog! A great find. It does cost $5 per visit but there are annual passes if you are staying for a length of time. Be sure to bring water for your dog while at the beach.

“Best park and beach on the west coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012

We drove up from Siesta Keys on a Sunday morning. Even though that commercial establishment touts itself has having the best beach in USA, there's no comparison. Fort De Soto is a true paradise. It's absolutely beautiful, and there are no building or stores to ruin the view.

Fort De Soto Park is also a bird lover's mecca. On that particularly day, we saw a white morph reddish egret and a tri-colored heron, among other species.

Sand dollars are everywhere.

You can walk miles here and really get away from it all.

Highly recommended.

“I love this park!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2012

Fort DeSoto park is a beautiful park and beach. I am a triathlete and I love to do the races that take place here. The water is gorgeous and usually calm. The beach is great for just hanging around, people watching, or escaping into whatever book you've brought. You can get 10 miles in one loop on your bike, and there is a pedestrian path that spans the whole island too. The view from the top of the fort is incredible. I love coming here.
