“Took my Breath Away!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2012

My day spent at Ft. De Soto Park in Tierra Verde, Florida was spectacular! I was amazed by how much beach there was to relax on (3 miles I was told) and, bonus, how peaceful and isolated it was! The sand was a gorgeous shade of white, and the sea a beautiful turquoise, it truly seemed as if we were on vacation on a deserted island! Besides the beach, I was thrilled to find out there were also 7 miles of trail ways to walk and bicycle and kayaks to rent as well!

After spending the morning relaxing on the beach, my friends and I checked out the historic Fort, picnicked in a picnic area, and bicycled the trails. I’d say my favorite part of this trip was the breath taking views! The views of the white sandy beach and keys were so stunning we stopped more than a few times to simply absorb the tropical lushness and serenity of it all.

Late afternoon we jumped at the chance to rent a kayak and paddled our way through a key, so priceless! We not only saw dolphins while at the beach, but to my further amazement, saw countless exotic birds throughout the day and a few turtles too! We were later told by a local that Ft. De Soto is home to almost 300 species of birds, worth a peek if you’re a nature lover!

If you’re visiting the area and wish to take a break for an all day visit, I highly recommend spending as much time at Ft. De Soto as you can! With so many ways to unwind, it’s worth every moment! Try to bring your sneakers to walk or bicycle the trails and a camera to capture the beauty you’ll see surrounding you everywhere!

“Cool Fort with a ferry ride to a island key!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

The boat ride was nice and the hike around the island was great. The fort was interesting but the beach and snack bar were very fun. Come for the day and have fun.

“Wonderful camping on the water”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

We booked many months ahead for a waterfront spot in this Pinellas County Park campground set in a series of islands at the base of Tampa Bay. Sites are big and have water and electricity. Many are right on the water, often hard to find anywhere. Sites are separated by tropical trees and plants. It is a beautiful place to bring your tent or RV. We'll be back but probably mid week when kids are in school...it can get a bit noisy when big families camp next to you.

Don't miss the museum by the Fort for background on Tampa's role in the Spanish American War.

“This place has it all!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

Fort De Soto Park is part of the Pinellas County Park system. It is on the very southern end of the string of Beaches in Pinellas County that include Clearwater, St. Pete, and Pass-a-grille. The park charges $5.00 for the whole car full but, considering the cost to park at the other beaches, it is a great price for all that is available at Fort De Soto. Of course there are the expansive beaches (East Beach and North Beach) that are perfect for all types of activities from dog play, kite boarding, and shelling to just swimming, strolling, and lounging. There are two piers from which to fish, boat excursions to other points of interest nearby such as Egmont Key, reservable shelters, consession stands (not the greatest but they do have food!), and open picnic areas nestled in the trees of the park. You can rent bikes for the whole family (even if you want just on peddle car for everyone!) or go to the fort and see the history (no extra cost and not just a run down shell of a fort). Plan to spend the day there and enjoy one of the greatest beaches this country has to offer.

“Great beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012

Great place for a relaxing day of sun, sand and water, in a natural setting. No high rises or commercial development to spoil the view of the beach. Within the park there are plentiful picnic areas with tables and grills, as well as a couple of shops to buy snacks and souvenirs. There are also showers provided in the restrooms, as well as outdoor showers to rinse the sand off your feet before you head back to your car. The old fort on site is an interesting diversion as well. This park is well worth the small entrance fee you pay to get in.
