The first thing I noticed was the Security at the gate. No entry without registration. We felt safe as people could not enter without a pass. 2nd thing. Staying "Ocean-Side" is disappointing. The pleasures one receives from watching indigionous wildlife is on the Bay-Side, though it is usually more expensive that staying at Ocean Pointe Suites.
Though the Condominium Units were acceptable, we found substantial differences in the quality of those units. Having stayed 2 times, on our first time we had the best of the 2 condos.
The privately owned condos are contracted to the management office to rent out.
A part of the stay is to include 1 visit by housekeeping in the 1 week stay,(usually the third day) and unfortunately we "wasted" our housekeeping visit on our first stay by using it to have a maintenance person come and check on and repair some faulty wiring. (They considered this our housekeeping alottment.)
The second stay, possibly the last stay, we again "wasted" our housekeeping visit to have maintenance yet again attend the unit to fix the lock on the front door as it was stripped and you could'nt lock the door at all. (There went another Housekeeping alottment.) And then there are all the feral cats prowling and screaming all night in the mangroves.
Next: What some people call a nice little beach, is an indentation scraped out of rock, with a rock base. No sand, with low water levels. So no Ocean swimming. It is surrounded by a brownish sandy area which we found to be barely maintained. While the photographs show that one can fish from the pier, the pier is actually a marina filled with boats. No room to fish. I brought fishing rods and tackle with us for this purpose. There is an spit of sorts that juts out into the ocean a bit, but it is not suitable for fishing. The swimming pool is out in the open, lacking privacy from passers by, unimaginative and poorly resourced with clean towel. Really, there was nothing to do there, so we hopped in the car and ran up to a park past Isla Morada and stayed for picnics and Ocean swimming there.
I would not return for anything longer than 2 nights if I could not get into the better Hotels on the Bay / Gulf Side right away.
Room Tip: Ask to be shown the Condo Unit which is to be assigned to you before accepting it. The quality vari...
