“Wrong side of the road”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

The first thing I noticed was the Security at the gate. No entry without registration. We felt safe as people could not enter without a pass. 2nd thing. Staying "Ocean-Side" is disappointing. The pleasures one receives from watching indigionous wildlife is on the Bay-Side, though it is usually more expensive that staying at Ocean Pointe Suites.
Though the Condominium Units were acceptable, we found substantial differences in the quality of those units. Having stayed 2 times, on our first time we had the best of the 2 condos.
The privately owned condos are contracted to the management office to rent out.
A part of the stay is to include 1 visit by housekeeping in the 1 week stay,(usually the third day) and unfortunately we "wasted" our housekeeping visit on our first stay by using it to have a maintenance person come and check on and repair some faulty wiring. (They considered this our housekeeping alottment.)
The second stay, possibly the last stay, we again "wasted" our housekeeping visit to have maintenance yet again attend the unit to fix the lock on the front door as it was stripped and you could'nt lock the door at all. (There went another Housekeeping alottment.) And then there are all the feral cats prowling and screaming all night in the mangroves.
Next: What some people call a nice little beach, is an indentation scraped out of rock, with a rock base. No sand, with low water levels. So no Ocean swimming. It is surrounded by a brownish sandy area which we found to be barely maintained. While the photographs show that one can fish from the pier, the pier is actually a marina filled with boats. No room to fish. I brought fishing rods and tackle with us for this purpose. There is an spit of sorts that juts out into the ocean a bit, but it is not suitable for fishing. The swimming pool is out in the open, lacking privacy from passers by, unimaginative and poorly resourced with clean towel. Really, there was nothing to do there, so we hopped in the car and ran up to a park past Isla Morada and stayed for picnics and Ocean swimming there.
I would not return for anything longer than 2 nights if I could not get into the better Hotels on the Bay / Gulf Side right away.

Room Tip: Ask to be shown the Condo Unit which is to be assigned to you before accepting it. The quality vari...

The suite was clean and the facilities were well kept but the individual condo (3214) was a mixed bag. Three couples stayed in the suite and the pull-out bed was broken so we had to sleep on a mattress on the floor which was a major disappointment. The kitchen faucet was functional but partially broken. The screen door was off and laying on the balcony. The sliding door was difficult to open. The master bedroom was nice along with the master bathroom. The second bedroom had two single beds. Washer and dryer in the suite. The suite had a good ocean view from the very small balconies. The overall facility was nice and the security was good but not overwhelming. The small beach was mostly ground rock rather than sand. The pool and tennis courts were clean and well kept. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was fairly convenient for getting food and other supplies.

Room Tip: Ask to see individual condos or check suite if possible because they vary in quality. Some friends...

I recently stayed at these apartments for two nights while travelling around some of the southern states. I loved my stay here. The complex has a beautiful, small private beach area, a wooden dock and a fishing / marine area. Although I imagine the beach would get a bit cramped in high season, when we came it was lovely and peaceful.

The apartment itself was great, with two decent size en-suite bedrooms located at opposite ends of the property which therefore gave plenty of privacy. The lounge/kitchen area was of a lovely size and looked out to sea. The accommodation also came with all the modern conveniences you could want such as a washing machine, dryer and dishwasher. In addition, the master-suite came with a whirlpool bath (although sadly, ours wasn't working).
If I'm being really picky, I was a little put off to find a couple of unwashed mugs in the kitchen and a cockroach on the work surface, but these were really only minor problems in an otherwise beautiful apartment.

Stayed recently at Ocean Point Resort. I understood from reading previous reviews that these units were privately owned and varied in quality. I did not find the staff at the check-in desk very friendly. I get the impression he was tired of dealing with people asking for renovated units after reading reviews on trip advisor. We were assigned a unit in a building that was pretty far back from the beach. As were were traveling with a toddler we asked for something closer. We were told nothing was available. We paid for ocean view so we insisted on getting another unit and suddenly there was one available. We stayed in unit 5215. It was not a renovated but it was very nice. The unit was immaculate, the furniture and the beds super comfortable. We all commented on how well we slept while we were there. Because the units are privately owned the resort itself is very quiet. I found it peaceful. No lound music blaring, the small beach was almost deserted. The grounds are well cared for. My only complaint would be that the units have very tiny balconies more like an observation deck.

Suites great. Old but clean enough. Our unit had a washer and dryer. Small beach and area for swimming not the best. Most people were friendly but not very welcoming to children. Playground small and not worth going to. Swimming pool very nice for lap swimming but not for kids. Service was slow. No ice machines, but freezer included a maker (ours was broke and they did not fix prior to departure). Property close to supermarket. Safe and secure facility.

We had no planned in advance where to go, our plan was to spend 10 days at Key West. We rented a convertible and visited the Everglades first but we spent far too long there and it was dark when we left, so we went to Expedia to look for a hotel to spend the night. We saw this, at a good price and headed there.

At night it was not that amazing, pretty dark, and the reception was small, but when we went to the apartment we were so surprised! The apartment was big and super clean, we had it all there (iron, iron board, hairdryer, washing machine, dishwasher, dryer, full kitchen, all the utensils you could need to cook, tons of cupboards and drawers everywhere etc). Each double room had an en suite, we had a balcony over viewing the ocean... we were amazed!

The day after was even better! The place has two tennis courts, a private beach, swimming pool, a marina, grills outside so you can have barbecues (and we had plenty of those!), and is two minutes by car from a massive supermarket and everything you may need, including restaurants, pharmacy, etc. You have to pass security to get into the compound and you have security all day and night, so you feel pretty secure while there.

The staff at the Ocean Pointe are all extremely helpful and we would like to thank Sam for giving us the great room we stayed at, Chaz and Abdul for all their help and specially Shinae for being wonderfully helpful and always smiling. Shinae was very professional, fast thinking and sorted out an issue within minutes, she is a gem!
The only thing we did not like at all was the fact that you have to pay for the internet, but the internet is charged by item, so if you want Wifi in your laptop and your son's iPad you pay twice the $6.99, it is not by room (or apartment) but by item... that we found unfair but on the other side, you still got internet when you left your room and headed to the swimming pool or the beach.

Other than that we loved it all!! In fact we came for a day and we stayed nine instead, we had to vacate on Saturday as it was fully booked but we spent that day at a hotel in Key West and returned in the morning there. We just returned on Thursday night.

If you want a great place to be when down there at a very good price, look no further, that is the place to be and we are going back there, it was just a great experience!! We did not want to leave!!!

Room Tip: We went for a Ocean View room and it was well worth it! Sunshine all day long and great views.

I stayed at this condo for the second time in two years. The grounds are meticulously maintained and the staff is very friendly and hard working. The pool is beautiful and so is the hot tub.

My only problem is the lack of high speed internet. I took my computer to the bar/check in area and tried to connect. It took almost 10 minutes and downloading was equally as slow. If you wanted internet in your room it was $10. per day which is way overboard considering what you pay for a month of WIFI. I asked the staff what was wrong and was told that over 300 units were connected to the same system! Didn't matter whether it was first thing in the morning or late into the evening same slow result. So I went into the town and used my computer at the library. If this problem was corrected I would be so happy. Other guests I spoke with had the same issue and were using their smart phones to check emails.
