“Brief Stay...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

My wife and I drove down after staying for a week at a wonderful hotel on Key Biscayne, Miami and arrived only 2 hours later at Ocean Pointe. The hotel is arranged in a series of privately owned one or two bedroomed suites set in four condo type blocks. Our holiday was booked through Virgin so all the reservations were already agreed and we were to be accomodated in the block overlooking the Island which was the farthest away from the reception, cafe, bar and beach but closest to the gate and pool.As I had been having some problems during the vacation with walking and it was a large site, I asked if we could be closer to the reception etc. The check-in guy was very helpful and found us a suite close to the reception etc and also close to the swimming pool.It was a two bedroom suite which was very spacious and clean, with all amenities you would expect from a well furnished apartment. We were to be charged an extra $10 /night for three nights but it was well worth it. The cafe opened and closed as it stated which wasn't always convenient. The rest of the facilities and beach were excellent, and it was conveniently placed for shopping and site seeing even as far as Key West for the day. I would thoroughly recommend this complex.

we arrived late in evening .we found checking in speedy and the counter staff friendly and helpful.Given a 2bed suite in block 1 , this was all we wanted ,Clean, modern, spacious and a lovely king sized ,memory foamed , bed - sooooo comfortable . Had a couple of very minor problems but were sorted very quick. This is an ideal place to stay to experience the wonder of the Keys.Shop to you drop just over 30miles back to mainland , or drive down to all the different places on offer. At the end of Burton Drive is a petrol station for water, milk etc and french vanilla coffee, yummy . We bought food in and stocked the well equipped american kitchen which contained a large fridge freezer and ice cubes aplenty.Loved the stay and would definetely recommend it to anyone .Will be returning and thankyou for a very memorable stay

Room Tip: we were on 3rd floor overlooking mangroves and sea in block1 ,i guess blocks 3,4,5 had better or clo...

The hotel rooms are privately owned and rented out to the hotel, so it really depends on what kind of owner you happen to get. Ours was thankfully very good, with tasteful decorations that lent the one-bedroom suite a very clean feeling. It came with a full kitchen, which we would've used if we'd been there longer than two days, and the water pressure was great in the shower (reading reviews of hotels in the Keys made me a little worried). The view from the balcony was of mangroves, with a tiny glimmer of the ocean in the back (we got an Island View though, so even that was nice), but the balcony was really tiny and could barely fit two chairs. For how much we paid, it was a great deal and we were pleasantly surprised, satisfied. The location was also great, and we went snorkeling at John Pennekamp State Park which was only a ten minute drive away. We also went to Key West for a day trip, and the drive there wasn't too bad from the hotel.

The service we received was fairly lackluster, but not particularly bad; we arrived around 9 pm, so maybe the check-in guy was tired. He was pretty efficient and told us everything we needed to know, so no real complaints. The guy at the gate was great though, and showed us exactly how to get us to the check-in office which is located in the back of the building.

The pool was great, we went there for a couple of hours at night (it's open until 11, same with the tennis courts) and the temperature was a little cool but easy to adjust to. The jacuzzi seemed to be a hit as well. Didn't get to hit the tennis courts, but they do provide equipment.

The complimentary breakfast appears to be from 8-10 am. We tried getting it twice, once at 7:45 and once at 10:05. Both times it was clear we narrowly avoided it, so plan carefully.

All in all, we had an excellent time for a quick jaunt to the Keys, and don't really understand some of the negative reviews. We stayed in Room 2213, which was really cozy and had nice furnishings, two flat screen televisions, and a stereo system. I don't know what more people expect from a hotel in the Keys where we paid $180 a night.

Room Tip: Higher up rooms have a better view of the small glimmer of ocean. There are five buildings, the firs...

Stayed here while on a dive trip and everyone from the site manager to the bar staff were friendly and we all had a great time. Some of the girls did not dive and stayed at the resort all day and had a great time on the beach and bar.
Super nice rooms and huge tv's were great.
Staying here with all the gang next year

This address didn't display on our GPS and we were arriving quite late. When I called at a late hour for directions, no one answered the main phone despite being told the front desk was open 24 hrs. We stopped at a local grocery store whose personnel told us to look for the mile marker listed on our reservation ("MM"), which helped immensely. When we arrived, the clerk said she was watching the basketball playoffs, which explains why no one answered the phone. This location is quiet and a little out of the way. It is clean but a little worn looking. For the price, we hoped for more.

not a bad little spot for overnight-accommodating and perfect location. Room was clean and service was good. Quiet and layed back. If you are traveling with children or alone it has the best of both worlds.Would do over.

Room Tip: Take the suite-its roomy and it has a home away from home feel.

Half an hour south of Mainland Florida on the Overseas Highway is the wildest part of the Florida Keys. As you drive further south it becomes more built up until you reach the party city of Key West. If restaurants, bars and general weirdness is your thing drive all the way to Key West. But if you want nature and quiet and the Keys as they were 100 years ago, try Ocean Pointe, at Tavernier, Key Largo in the Upper Keys. This is a large condo property with rentals. There is nice landscaping, a good pool, boating facilities, fishing dock and a man made sandy beach. Just north and south is the traditional Mangrove Habitat. The units are older but well maintained and very clean. They have both one and two bedroom units available and ground floor to fourth floor. The kitchens are well equipped with full size fridge and stove and all the dishes you need to cook for the family. Grocery stores and limited shopping is very nearby and all the things you could imagine are just twenty minutes south on Islamorada. There is a great store called Sandal Outlet/T Shirt Outlet that has good prices and a great selection. Explore the local flora and fauna. Feed Tarpon. Swim with Dolphins. Try world class fishing or snorkeling. Eat at the Cracked Conch restaurant. Or just bring a book and relax at the resort. If you're interested in the Keys but not necessarily the continuous party of Key West, try Ocean Pointe.

Room Tip: Fourth floor rooms have the best view of the Mangrove Habitat and Ocean
