“A must for those visiting the Tampa area and seeking fine wine and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2015 NEW

Kudos to the chef, sommelier, server, management and owner. Truly a fine dining experience. We kept it simple with French onion soup for my fellow diner, strip steaks for both of us, the Bern's house salad, and desserts in the dessert room. The sommelier was helpful in guiding me to an older vintage Chateau Leoville Poyferre that we both enjoyed. The server gave us a bit of history of the origins and growth of the restaurant. I enjoyed the choice of sauces for the aged Nebraska beef--I chose a port cream sauce while my companion chose bleu cheese. Our reservation was at 9:00 PM and my friend arrived about 30 minutes late. Although they stop seating people at 10:00 we were still allowed to go to the dessert room after dinner and were not rushed to get out of there. I appreciate that extension of courtesy to late diners.

“Simply.. The Best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2015 NEW

Absolutely the best. It looks like it will be expensive, but there is so much included in the single price for the meal that the end price is very reasonable. Our waiter was knowledgeable and made excellent wine pairing suggestions. You'll also enjoy the separate area for dessert. Very unique.

“A Must Do if you are anywhere close to Tampa!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2015 NEW

Had the occasion to visit Bern's while in town for a convention. We had a party of 22 people, and no one realized what lay ahead for us on that evening. We arrived at the restaurant early and were standing outside the front door instead of trying to crowd in the lobby - I remember thinking, will they be able to accomodate us all ....especially as the outside doesnt look like anything all that large, although nice in street appeal. Turns out they can seat 500 people at a time if necessary.

Once inside we were led to a special room where two staff members were ready to get us on our way. What came next was an extensive menu ...call it more what it was, a book, filled with culinary delights. You can choose the cut of meat you wish, the weight .....just about everything you can think of. The meals come with soup, salad and vegetable ....like if you were going to need all of this, and everyone at the 2 tables were raving about their particular dishes. All of a sudden one of the tables disappears to take a tour of the 6000 sqft. kitchen, no typo here, it was amazing - the grill is capable of cooking 200 steaks at a time - all of the staff, like their beef, are well seasoned, having to work at least 2 years behind the scenes before they can be out front. They have a wine cellar with 100,000 bottles of wine, again not a typo, and a 1/2 million more in a warehouse across the street. After the backroom tour, it was upstairs to have desert, all homemade including the ice cream, and wash it down with a dozen pages of after dinner liquors. As one who has eaten at fine restaurants all over the world, this one will be hard to beat.

The food was excellent, the service wonderful and even for 22 people, the price while not cheap, was very acceptable. What a treat even for someone who dines out most of the time. If you get the chance, dont hesitate for a moment ....you will be amazed.

“Expensive, but an experience not to be missed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2015 NEW

Yes it's pricey, but if you want a peak into an old school world where a family takes great pride in the service they provide, Bern's is not to be missed. Great service and 5 star steaks are only the start. Be sure to take advantage of all they have to offer. Your waiter/waitress will probably ask if you want a wine tour after your meal, and reservation for Harry Waugh Dessert Room, if not be sure to ask. They're both worth it. Even if you just get a decaf coffee (which was very good), go so you can admire the eclectic decorations chosen by the owners. If you see something that interest you don't be afraid to ask about it. I've gone about 6 times now, so only occasionally take the wine tour, but have enjoyed every visit.

“Great Steak, Make your reservations ASAP”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2015 NEW

Went to Bern's following a Golf Tournament, made reservations well in advance. Was seated after about a 10 minute wait, dinner was fantastic, the tour of the restaurant was very informative, one of the largest wine collections in the world. Then on to the desert room, a experience in itself, something that you really have to do
