“Great hotel with beautiful view.Very good breakfast. shuttle was convenient. Oakland, Oregon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2011

We stayed at this hotel after 2 weeks of reviewing rooms in the area. We were searching for a nice clean hotel to stay at before and after our Caribbean cruise. we wanted a nice, clean room that offered a shuttle to and from the airport, also to and from the cruise port, and also offered a good breakfast, and had a pool. This hotel did it all! I had some pretty lofty goals on my search and I found them all at a reasonable price. The rooms were clean and nice. Not super fancy, but that was not our goal. It was very nicely decorated and comfortable. We were upgraded to a suite on our return stay at no charge. We were also offered a shuttle to pick up and drop off our rental car. The pool was heavenly and the view was very nice. Scott (the manager) made sure we had a good stay and everything went as planned. The Bahama Breeze restaurant next door was VERY good. This is literally a 2 minute walk from the hotel. But after noticing a 90 minute wait for dinner, we chose to try it the next day for lunch and were very pleased. You must try the onion rings and Jerk chicken! The only thing at the hotel we all noticed, that could have been better was that the front desk receptionist (Claudja) could have smiled more. She definitely got her job done, even when she was swamped and the only one at the desk. Although, it would have been even better if she showed us the beautiful smile she had, that we rarely saw. That being said, this is searching for something that could be better. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay, and enjoyed our trip. When we come back to Tampa we will definitely return to the Holiday Inn, Tampa Rocky Point. GREAT JOB!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2011 via mobile

After a lot of research, I booked a room at the Holiday Inn. After speaking with the hotel directly, our party chose the cruise package. For $119 (before tax), the hotel offered a standard room (clean and spacious enough for 4 adults), complimentary breakfast (standard cheese & eggs, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy and pastries), and shuttle pick-up from airport, to port, and from port to airport. The airport pick-up was very prompt. I called when we arrived at package claim. By the time we collected our bags, the shuttle was waiting. The room was clean and early check in was no problem. We had dinner at the Bahama Breeze next door. Dinner was great, but get there early (no wait at 5:30 but 2 hour wait when we left at 7- I suggest calling ahead). For the most part, the staff was always helpful and attentive to our needs. Thanks Holiday Inn!

We would definetly stay here again when in Tampa.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights the first part of December while shopping in and around Tampa. Everything was great EXCEPT we had some rowdy/loud people on our floor two of the three nights. Other than that it was great!

I can't say enough about the great services this hotel provides. Everyone was extremely nice and went out of there way to be of service. The shuttle service was wonderful. And the resturant within walking distance was very nice.

Positives: It is close to airport and the shuttle service to/from the airport was prompt. It was clean "enough", but not immaculate. The continental breakfast got the job done.

Negatives: Too far from everything else, and only one restaurant within walking distance. We stayed here pre/post cruise.....they overbooked the shuttle service to the port which meant we had to wait for another shuttle service to pick us up....and they were later than others. The cruise package is NOT all it's cracked up to be. (In fairness, the pick-up from the port was very prompt and very smooth, but we were more anxious excited to get TO the port, and they didn't do well with that.)

As mentioned in my title, we are not a high maintenance family. We look for budget places because we aren't interested in dropping money unnecessarily. However, if/when we come back to Tampa, we will find a different hotel.

Like many others, we chose this hotel as a pre-cruise stay, based on the airport/cruise terminal shuttle being included. The hotel was clean, staff was more than friendly, and the location was beautiful. No, they don't have a restaurant (other than the complimentary breakfast)- but I wouldn't have assumed that they did since on no site that I looked at was it ever mentioned as an amenity. (Not sure why other posters would knock them down for it!) There were plenty of very good restaurants very close by- anything from quick and casual to upscale dining.

I can not say enough about how accommodating they were for us. Not only did they pick us back up from the cruise terminal, but brought us back to the hotel since we had a late flight home, allowed us to use the pool AND an already cleaned room to freshen up, drove us to grab an early dinner, then picked us back up to take to the airport. I really feel that this was above and beyond, as we were not current occupants at that time! We were so impressed by the value/quality that I have chosen to book a suite there for a week next month!

If you want to have a decent vacation you will read this review and decide NEVER to stay at this godforsaken funsucking vampire of a hotel. EVER. Alright, so the hotel was clean, the staff was nice (well, the housekeepers were, anyway) and there is a "view" that overlooks a "beach" a.k. an unattractive harbor with a busy highway running over it which wouldn't necessarily qualify as something I'd love to wake up to in the morning. I'm sure many people (myself included) ignore or at least overlook the fact that this hotel is located on a tiny island. Some would even consider this a GOOD thing but when you are on a vacation without a car and have to pay a cab fare just to get to the nearest grocery store (6 miles away), gas station (6 miles away) and the NEAREST FAST FOOD PLACE (Taco Bell, located 5 miles away) it can get costly and inconvenient to say the least. DON'T LET THEM MAKE YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE BEACHES ON THIS ISLAND. Because there aren't. Plain and simple. There is a 1/4 mile stretch of the harbor with sand on it, but it is in no way shape or form a beach. Clearwater Beach is 22 miles away, which means a $40 cab fare. Or you can take the "bus", which makes Clearwater runs either at 8:40am or 5:60pm (only Monday through Friday, I might add). And it's not even a direct ride, you'd have to transfer half way.

So, after one day of being there we finally realized what we got ourselves into. Immediately we decided to just get a hotel IN Clearwater, right ON the beach, which would have cost us LESS than what we paid for this hotel. The hotel cancellation policy was that we'd have to pay one full night's stay, which we were even okay with because we wanted to leave so badly. Then, when we tried to do that, the receptionist all of a sudden told us that because we had to pay our ENTIRE rest of the reservation because we booked through Hotels.com and not through them directly. When we tried to dispute this, we called hotels.com and they attempted to call the hotel in order to resolve the matter only to have the receptionist hang up on them the first time they called and then tell them a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT story the second time they called. This was all happening while we were sitting in the lobby within 12 ft of the receptionist.

To top it all off, the walls were so thin that me and my friend could hear people peeing in the room next to us and their "free high speed wi-fi" only works in the lobby.

I honestly hope to reach as many people as I can with this review. I am planning on posting it on every hotel review website I can think of in hopes that someone will listen to my desperate cries. I am truly only trying to prevent everyone else from making the same mistake that I did, because it completely ruined my entire vacation. But, if you end up staying here anyway, at least there is a Bahama Breeze basically in the parking lot of the hotel that you can walk to and drown your sorrows with a nice frozen margarita. That's what we did anyway.
