“not in line with quality of other HI express hotels”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

We stayed there last week as a last night before getting to the airport next morning. We were disappointed since we are well familiar with the Holiday Inn Express hotels, so our expectations were aligned to our previous HI express experiences, but this hotel does not come close or perhaps we did end up receiving a bad room (304). Since we arrived late we were too tired to complain to the staff or to abandon and stay somewhere else for the night. My guess is that we ended up perhaps in a room that was not yet renovated or somehting.
The room was basically clean, but carpet and walls were stained, old, used... although the outside of the hotel look clean and new, so did the lobby, so were quite suprised. The door to the bathroom looked like there had been a fight or something or that someone tried to break in when the door was closed. There was no shower curtain (though the rod was still up), very nice to discover that in the morning when you are in a hurry. etc.

Would not recommend this hotel (unless we had really bad luck with the room assignment), and will think twice before booking again in HI Express.

I've had to visit Central Florida several times this past year and usually fly into Orlando where I pick up my rental car. A friend suggested Tampa as an alternative. The airport is less busy and the drive north a little less frazzaling (plus no pesky tolls). This hotel was recommended by friends who liked both the location and especially the close proximity to the airport. They had a 5am flight to catch. As I had prepaid for the room, check in was a breeze. The room was clean and good sized and the king bed nice and firm. Everything worked (the WiFi was fast) and the bathroom had all the things you would expect to find. The express checkout feature was a nice touch and the buffet breakfast was more than adequate. I have stayed in similar type hotels but I can safely say this was probably one of the better of the lot, if not the best.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the bay on the fourth storey.

We booked a ‘sleep and sail’ package through this hotel for our September cruise vacation. Due to reasons out of their control, we did not arrive until 4 am the morning AFTER our scheduled check in: we had called earlier in the day to let them know we’d be arriving late, and we learned upon arrival that they’d called our (buried under luggage) cell phone about two hours prior to make sure we were okay and still headed to the hotel!

Although the hotel was sold out both the night/morning we arrived and the subsequent day, the friendly and helpful (thank you, Marcelle!) night clerk graciously gave us a late check out to coincide with our scheduled port shuttle departure.

The room was clean; we booked a ‘suite,’ which was reminiscent of an entry-level ‘Embassy Suites’ space – but still, had plenty of room for four grown adults (including a mini-fridge/bar area) and an SUV full of cruise luggage.

The hot breakfast (pre-made omelettes, pancakes, muffins, sausage, and quite delish-but-not-too-sweet cinnamon rolls), combined with the standard ‘continental’ offerings, hit the spot. It would be nice if the window of opportunity for breakfast, especially on the weekends, were longer than three hours (6:30 to 9:30 am), but that’s small potatoes (no pun intended!).

The biggest difficulty during our too-short stay was that poor Marcelle had to go hunt down a luggage cart for us to use – at 4:30 am! We don’t fault him - we blame the self-centered hotel guests who couldn’t be bothered to return said carts to the lobby for others to use.

All in all, a very nice place to overnight. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

The Holiday Inn Express Rocky Point Island: I stayed here under the cruise and snooze package. Driving from the Tampa International Airport to this Holiday Inn was a breeze.
I had a room with 2 beds. The room was clean, comfortable and quite welcoming.
Check in was quick and Charles who was checking me in was delightful and knowledgeable.

The parking lot was well lighted at night and there was plenty of parking.
The breakfast buffett, was plenty, not alot of options but enough. The only complaint I have is the coffee. Not to my liking, but I walked down to the Westin for a Starbucks.

The hotel overall was nice, you get what you pay for. I was happy with the overall service and room. The day of the cruise the lobby was a little crazy but that was to be expected.
There was plenty of shuttles departing from the hotel to the pier. I would suggest to take the later shuttle. I am glad I chose the later time.

I would stay here again, when I am in the Tampa area.

I always stay in this hotel and it can't be beat. I paid $60 a night and it included breakfast. Place was fully booked, so I didn't get a water view, but it's not important. Room was clean, beds were comfortable, Wi-Fi was free and fast. Shower was clean, good shower head, with nice water pressure. Desk and a chair.
Front desk helped pick dinner spot, close by. Breakfast was good, clean, they had bacon, eggs, not gourmet, but free and good.
Bahama Breeze is right next door so you don't need a hotel bar. You could rent jet skis and boats next door at the wind ham, there is a waterfront bar across the highway that is good too. You could literally park, unpack and stay here and have a vacation for a resonable rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a waterfront room, but try to get there early.

My husband and I were not too pleased upon checking in - we tried to check in early but no rooms available. No biggie, we went next door to Bahama Breeze (walking distance away, very good atmosphere and food) and came back close to 3. The guy at the front desk (I think his name was Mark) was not friendly at all. He was rude and very short with both of us. I tried to give him our Priority Club number but he wouldn't listen when I tried to explain that I booked through hotels.com so my number didn't transfer. Our room was fine until the next morning. It had been storming a lot in Tampa, and our toilet started to overflow. Maintenance came and plunged the toilet and cleaned up the water but it was still not fixed due to a broken pump. We were then moved to a suite due to the hotel not having any king rooms available. Thanks to Britney at the front desk who made our experience a lot more pleasant! She was very friendly and personable and made sure we were set up in a room with a working toilet. The breakfast was good, lots of options (eggs, sausage, biscuits, pancakes, muffins, etc) - the 2nd morning of our stay was very busy. The water pressure was low, as it is in most hotels. The bed was a little firm and the pillows were lumpy - a little hard to get comfortable. Overall it was a good experience made better by Britney - we travel to Tampa a lot, specifically Rocky Point and we will stay there again thanks to her!

Room Tip: Try to book a suite if possible - has a fridge, microwave and seating area.

Family of 4 stayed here in double suite (2dble beds and a fold out couch)
It was great for a one night pre-cruise.
Service was excellent. We booked the cruise package which includes pick up and drop off from the cruise port.

Had the free breakfast but it wasn't the greatest. This hotel was close to everything we rented a car and drove to nearby Clearwater and nearby shopping.

Tip: request a higher floor facing thebay. Same owner owns the Hampton inn next door but this hotel has great views which is why I chose it!
