“Sumptuous but crowded hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2010

I loved my room - very modern, luxurious and serene; felt like a suite and definitely a cut above where I usually stay. Oddly there was no hotel/city information in the room so every question had to be phone down to the front desk for a question. That was irritating.

PROS: free WiFi, free parking, free unlimited printing in business center; luxurious rooms; great location (near University of South Florida and Busch Gardens)

CONS: only certain rooms got newspapers (go figure) and the free breakfast was minimal (cold cereal, toast, whole fruit, etc.). Breakfast area was inadequate in size for the crowds (or number of rooms in the hotel).

The place was crawling with guests - not surprising for its proximity to Busch Gardens and my stay coinciding with Spring Break. I would happily stay here again and recommend it to all.

Compliments first: Management and staff were very courteous and helpful. If I based my review on them alone, it would be very positive. The pool was great, the room had a refrigerator and a huge flat screenTV, and the mattresses on the double beds were wonderful. The computers and printer were available when we needed them.
Sadly, there was a wait each morning to get into the crowded breakfast room. Except for some fresh fruit, it was a very basic continental breakfast. On the last morning, there was no regular coffee at 8:25 and apparently no plans to brew more. Breakfast seating was in the rather busy main lobby, and was not enough seating for the numbers that were there, (week before Easter). The bathroom was tiny and carpeting was worn and appeared dirty. Our room faced busy Fowler Avenue, so it was not as quiet as this light sleeper would have liked. The Hyatt also seemed to be farther away from the Busch Gardens Main Entrance than had been noted in their advertising.
The most annoying part was that the Hyatt chain has made a "design choice" to have no telephone books or city guides in the rooms, or anywhere in the hotel, and no advertising except Busch Gardens, etc. materials were available. They want you to call or stop at the desk and ask questions, and then they provide you with specific information and maps re: restaurants, attractions, etc. I felt manipulated that in the name of service I was denied the opportunity to access information on my own, e.g. find a pizza restaurant in a phone book or look at attractions in brochures racks or city guides. Call me a visual learner, but I appreciate the opportunity to do my own information gathering via telephone book, brochures, etc about the area I am visiting, and then ask staff for assistance if needed.

We stayed here for 2 nights in January to see Busch Gardens. I thought the room was beautifully done-very modern and spacious. Even had a sectional in the living space-not that we used it but it was a nice touch. There was a giant tv and a minifridge with prep sink.
The free breakfast was simple, but adequate. You could pay extra and have them cook you a hot meal if you wanted something more substantial. Very near many restaurants.
Overall, very nice stay-especially with the killer deal I got from priceline.com naming my own price.

This hotel was write down the road to Busch Gardens and the Yuengling Beer Factory. First impression pulling up the grounds to the hotel were clean.. The active train tracks running along one side of the propety was a little disheartiing but it may be a freight line since i haven't heard or seem a train go by in my week stay. Check in is fast if you have made reservations since they have 2 automatic kiosiks to check in. Amentinites at hotel
1) Outdoor pool.
2)Fitness center..disappointing.. Only a hand full of treadmills and a scale
3) Starbucks coffee and in room food service. Also mini bar and grill around front desk
4)Continental breakfast on the better side than most.
5)Free hispeed WIFI
6)Business center with 2 computers and one laser printer

The room itself has a minifridge. A couch.. Ironboard/iron. A large flat screen TV. All staff are very friendly and helpful...

Section 8 housing is located directly behind the hotel the only separation is a raged chain link fence. The littering was horrible - a broken screen door is between the housing and the parking lot. A set of train tracks is also on the other side of the parking lot. Luckily for us, the train only came on one of 3 mornings. We heard police sirens all three nights there and one night they were in the parking lot. Do not think of this place as a hyatt. You have been warned. Breakfast was the only good thing besides leaving.

Tampa weather was terrible during our trip, very cool winter and it rained. That said:
PROS: great value, free breakfast was good, ideally located for Busch Gardens, heated pool, gym room - ok, could use some hand weights. Rooms were spacious enough for 2 adults, 2 children, wet bar, sectional sofa. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel near many chain restaurants and shopping malls.
CONS: Bathroom was tiny and carpet need updating.
This hotel was an AmeriSuites, taken over by Haytt.
