“Best Hotel for Business in Tampa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2010

The Intercontinental is 10 minutes away from the airport and located right across Westshore Mall. The rooms have a good size, have everything you need (Wifi, minibar, iron, HDTV), are very clean and in a good shape. Rooms number x25, x26, x28 on the lower 6 floors might be a little bit noisy because you can hear the street traffic at night. Service is excellent and fast. There is a free parking garage behind the hotel. There is also a little pool on the 9th floor. However I would not really recommend this hotel for family vacations, as the majority of the guests are business people and most hotel services are focused on business.
Breakfast buffet is USD16. There is also an "Illy Coffee" in the lobby, basically serving the same type of breakfast you can get at Starbucks. There are several good restaurants within 3 minutes walking distance, like the "Fish Market" or the "Palms". Wifi is for free (and kind of slow und unreliable during peek hours...that would be my only complain about the Intercontinental). There is a free airport shuttle running every 30 minutes.

I stay in Tampa every 3 weeks and tried almost every other good hotel close the airport: The two main competitors are the Grand Hyatt and the Renaissance at the International Mall, which are both within the same price range. The Hyatt is located very remotely and you cannot go anywhere without a car. The Renaissance has much smaller rooms and the noise from Tampa International Airport is annoying at night.

This makes the Intercontinental the best choice in Tampa.

Nice hotel with clean rooms and very modern surroundings. Situated across the street from a mall and centrally located. I stayed there with my family with plans mostly to go to Busch garden and Adventure Island. The kids liked the hotel but it's not ideal for children. Easy and free parking. There is only one coffee shop and Shula's steak house in the hotel but there are some nice restaurant across the street. Nice but small gym. Roof pool. Rooms faced the inner atrium with views into the office building sharing the atrium. You can see into all the rooms of the office building and vice-versa.

This was my second trip to Tampa, but my first time at the Intercontinental. (Last time we had the misfortune of staying at the Marriott Westshore and decided NEVER AGAIN). My husband travels to Tampa often on business and this is his preferred hotel. And now it's mine as well. The location can't be beat, the staff courteous and efficient, parking -- altho' shared with the offices around the hotel -- was free, and the room we were given was lovely. Everything was in working order, the bed was most comfortable and, thankfully, there were no noisy guests around us. We spent the weekend at Busch Gardens and then my husband went to work for a few days, while I reacquainted myself with the area. All in all, a pleasant trip made even better because of our stay at the Intercontinental. Won't stay anywhere else when in Tampa.

This hotel is Awesome, very nice and spacious, and very clean. The beds were the best I have ever seen in a hotel, very comfy and soft. Staff is very friendly and speaks many different languages. Self parking was free (did not use valet) and very convenient, and is located directly behind the hotel. The location is GREAT.!! The hotel is across the street from Westshore Plaza mall, and several restaurants. Bell-hops will bring luggage (for a tip), and if you use a luggage rack then you must use the bell service, you can't bring it up yourself.

Tip: make sure that you do not remove anything from the mini bar (even to look at it) or you will be immediately charged (the items in the fridge are on a sensor, and if you move them you buy them).

I do have a couple of minor nit-picking issues, the first being that the air conditioning didn't circulate well, and we had to get a fan,. The second is I was very surprised that this type of property didn't have a hot-tub/spa, that would have been very nice touch!

There was also a Shula's Steakhouse in the hotel, we did not eat there but have eaten at Shula's in the past, and it is a superb restaurant, just a bit pricey!

OVERALL this is a superb hotel, very nice place, and I would not hesitate to recommend this property to others. If I am ever in the Tampa area again, I would stay again in a minute!

Have stayed at this hotel a few times. Got great deals via Priceline. Close to Tampa Airport, International Plaza Mall and many restaurants. Mall across street (Westshore Mall) not as upscale as International Plaza but has Macy's etc.
Walgreens, Starbucks, Panera Bread, Magiano's, Chiangs and other restaurants all in walking distance.
Sarasota 50 mins drive. Convenient to drive to many beaches.
Rooms clean and comfy. Rooftop pool which we always enjoy. Small but sunny with open views of Tampa Bay and enjoy watching flights in and out of Tpa!

A big disappointment at this hotel is the front desk staff. Each time I have stayed I have found them to be bordering on unpleasant!

Housekeeping staff and staff at the Bar in the Lobby were always welcoming, efficient and friendly. The Lobby Bar serves lovely food from Shula's. I have eaten in Shula's before but was disappointed in the level of service so prefer to enjoy the high quality food in the more pleasing atmosphere of the Lobby Bar!

Will definately return to this hotel which I love for location but it would be great if management could address the attitude (not friendly/welcoming) of front desk staff.

Admittedly, I didn't need much from this hotel while at a conference. The 11? story hotel occupies half of a building, the other half being occupied by offices, from what I could tell. The parking is in the communal garage on the 2nd floor, and it takes minimal work to get to the lobby.

The check-in desk is small, almost easy to miss. There is a Shula's in full of view of everyone walking through the lobby. We didn't eat at this one but have liked Shula's in other cities. It looked reasonably crowded for lunch and dinner. There's also a small coffee shop with Illy coffee.

All I cared about was a comfy bed and a nice, clean bathroom. This hotel scored big on both. The beds were high and fluffy, and the pillows perfect. The bathroom was nicely decorated, though the tubs a little high-walled.

The rooftop pool was quite small, limiting our time there. It had a distant view of the water (ocean?). I didn't check out the fitness room. There was a small mall conveniently located catty-corner from the hotel: Penney's, Macy's, etc., as well as Maggiano's and Chang's.

I don't know if I'd seek out this hotel for a vacation, but it was definitely great for a conference!

We booked this four star property through priceline. The hotel is a busines hotel but has enough to please for a weekend getaway. The pool was average at best but the rest of the facility was very nice. We enjoyed dessert in the lounge from Shula's. The room was spotless and the bed was extraordinary. We would absolutely go back.
