“Great hotel...with one exception”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

This was an excellent hotel! Wonderful location across the street from the Westshore Mall and two miles from high end shopping at International Plaza. The staff were courteous, attentive, very pleasant and professional. I grabbed a quick bite at Shula's and was very pleased with the food and service and ordering a microwave for my room was quick and inexpensive.

As I was travelling alone, I felt very safe and comfortable moving about the hotel and the adjacent garage, though the garage could have been a lit a little better. The room was a decent size, and very clean.

My only real "issue" with the hotel was the pool...very small and non-descript. I expected more in a rooftop pool. Honestly, the best thing about the pool was the celebrity sighting I had while there! LOL

Overall, a fantastic stay for the price!

All in all, a great hotel for the price.

Ok hotel. Had to pay for wifi $13.00 a day. That should be included in today economy. Hotel maids were harassing to get into room by calling and knocking on door. I put the do not disturbing my door and still we're trying to contact me. Parking was free so no big deal with that. Rooms were kind of small but ok. The do have a pool on the roof, but not a very nice pool. For a IC hotel should have a lot better pool than what I was at. Hotel wasn't bad just not great. Got a good deal on hotel so not very disappointed with it.

Clean and new rooms, bathroom etc.. for me that's worth the price. Nothing is included, and all is extra, but we knew that. But we also had an ok view...

Pool is small and not pretty at all but is purposeful.

Staff is meh, I think the manager is really nice, but the others were not to happy it seemed... we had major noise issues (people working and visiting the hotel), they sent a beer and one strawberry for apology. I appreciate the gesture, but for lack of sleep you need to do a bit more than that, plus one beer and one strawberry to a room where two people stay (they knew)? Still one of the best decently priced hotels in Tampa we stayed at. Really great location, and you can even walk to a few things which is good because parking is a hassle here.

Room Tip: Get a view.

Modern well laid out Hotel, with comfortable if slightly small rooms. Only issues lie in expensive room service menu with very expensive service fees. Also quality of food not worth price charged. Same issue with valet parking, you are pretty much forced to use Valet at $18 per day and then it took 15 minutes in the morning to have the car brought round as only one Valet during the busy hours. Not very good management. Also issues with their check-in computers and terrible breakfast - cheap buffet with cheap ingredients.

My wife stayed here for our Anniversary!! We were new to the area and through a suggestion stayed here for 3 nights. The staff was extremely nice and willing to help with anything. The turn down service was a very nice touch. The location was exceptional, since it seemed we were easily accessible to everywhere within a few driving minutes. Check-in and Check-out was easy and fast. The room was very clean, comfortable, and nice. The only downside was that we kept our curtains closed because the location of the window was right across from an office window and I knew there wasn't any tinting. So, the people in the office could look right in. That is extremely minor in my opinion. Would stay here again!!

I was excited about staying in this beautiful hotel, however it was disappointing. It would be great for a business person who is expensing everything, but not friendly towards a regular traveler. NOTHING is included; wi-fi is 12.95 a day! There are $7 bottles of water all around the room which are tagged with a notice that if you open a bottle you will be charged $7 for each one. And don't even think about looking in the mini bar! I was concerned when I read about the elevator noise; indeed, even though my room was about 6 rooms away the noise was constant. All day and all night. And my room was directly across from the office bldg. so I couldn't open the curtains without people looking back at me. Very strange. The room was very nicely appointed, (except for the fact that the 3 lampshades in the room were very beat-up, with cracks, chips missing, and when I turned them to the other side they all had big burn marks). Don't get me wrong, the hotel is very beautiful and conveniently located to airport, shopping, etc. But I would not stay there again.

We booked our reservation with Expedia and I mixed up the date of our check-in. Expedia was completely useless and unwilling to help us edit the reservation, but James Hellman was able to resolve the issue. Not only did he resolve things, but for our trouble with Expedia, he even upgraded us to a king suite - at the same rate we booked with Expedia. We were there for our wedding weekend, and this courtesy was so appreciated and unexpected! Additionally, the room was amazing. Everything was clean, the decor is very nice, and the shower pressure is top-notch. My husband and I stayed there last year for a special occasion, and were not in a suite, and that room was amazing too. The service and staff are outstanding - everyone is smiling and professional. I didn't see anyone working that seemed to not be enjoying their jobs. The hotel is in the Westshore area of South Tampa and is right across the street from a great movie theater, mall, and restaurants! The close proximity of entertainment coupled with the gorgeous room, and first-class service make the Intercontinental my favorite place to stay in Tampa. And if you're like me and love room service, but hate to eat 'hotel food,' go ahead and order room service here. The food is delivered accurately, fast, and piping hot...and is not overpriced. A generous 1/2 lbs burger and fries was only $14. Same prices as J. Alexander's. Love, love, love this hotel!!
