“Overall not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012 via mobile

Service here is really good. Rooms are OK if a little dated. Huge hotel. Long way to parking lots. This hotel is used by military in processing(MEPS). So it is really busy with a lot of people hanging around all day. Hotel is conveniently located near everything in Tampa. Will stay here again.

Stayed for one night (Sunday) for a conference. Free shuttle from the airport is a plus, but you have to call them directly - they are not on the screen near baggage claim with the other hotels in the area.

Check in process was OK. No line, front desk clerk was pleasant enough but not memorable. No perks offered for Hilton Honors other than a free breakfast card (already had breakfast plans with my conference). Doubletree has reduced the free cookie they hand you to one, which is fine with me. I took one bite and it was delicious, but cookies are just not my 'thing".

This is an older hotel and it shows in a few ways. They have made nice upgrades to try to keep current, but the low ceilings tend to give an 80s feel. The lobby is a bit awkward with a round config, but well maintained and has plenty of seating. There is a sports bar and an Italian restaurant off the lobby. No one was in either when I check in at 7:45pm.

The hotel is situated around a courtyard, so it can be a hike to get to some of the rooms. The balconies are nice, but I didn't get to use mine. It didn't overlook anything scenic anyway. The rooms are a nice size and the linens are a good quality (nicer sheets, duvet, four pillows on a king bed). There is a flat screen TV, a single serve coffee maker, chair with ottoman and a desk in the room. The bedside stand have lamps with additional outlets, which I like. The clock radio has a plug in for your Ipod.

Where the room shows it's age is in the bathroom. It is tiny. To their credit, they have upgraded the small space as much as possible with a marble sink and wood touches. There is hardly any counter space to work with. I moved the toiletry tin and the glasses away to make room for my makeup case and curling iron (why do they even put glasses in the bathroom these days - yuck).

The bed was comfortable and the AC worked fine, although I noticed a sign on the thermostat that any setting under 70 would make the AC freeze up and the carpet would get wet. I left mine set at 70, which was cool enough (usually 70 means a bit stuffy in some hotels, but this one was fine). The bed was right in front of the air vent, so that helped.

I had an excellent meal delivered by room service. i was a bit apprehensive when I called down to order and the man who answered sounded very novice, repeating my order incorrectly several times. But the tray was delivered promptly and the turkey melt and salad were delicious. They did forget my ice water, but my room was just down the hall from the ice machine, so I served myself.

During the conference (which I managed) the hotel banquet staff were great and the food was awesome. I would recommend this hotel to business travelers and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing a courtyard - they have balconies and are away from the highway noise

Went last weekend for a get-away and enjoyed the pleasant reception by Maritza at the Front Desk. She went above and beyond and even called us after we were in our room to ask if everything was OK. Rest of staff were friendly and thanked us for staying with them.
Hot tub and pool were great. Loved the Sports Bar and food.
Free Wi-fi was pretty fast, easy parking, easy checkout. We liked it very much!

Room Tip: Facing pool is best

Recently spent five days at this Doubletree. Staff very friendly, The young lady who checked us in was very conscientious and would be a great manager, Shirley the F&B manager at the Italaisa restaurant was tremendous. The hotel itself was well appointed and since this was a national convention I am sure every one did their extra best. One thing to keep in mind about this location is that you will need to drive to many fun spots since this hotel is a bit away from things like Ybor City(a really cool place to go)

I recently stayed at this property for one night before flying back to Dallas at 6am. They offer a free shuttle over to the airport, just five minutes away. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes, and drops you off right in front of your gate. Super clean and quiet rooms.

We spent the night prior to our cruise, the entire staff was wonderful, the food was great and the welcome "cookie" was a nice surprise, and of course the room was spacious and clean. The location was good, very close to a Mall, we parked the car for the entire cruise at the hotel, the shuttle took us to the port and picked us up, the value was great, and a lot less hassle and a lot less cosstly than paying separatly for hotel and parking. I will do this again, and OH yeah, the cruise of amazing.

GREAT VALUE

Room Tip: Cant go wrong with a Hilton

This property is in need of a major renovation to bring it up to the Hilton standards I am accustomed to. The lobby and restaurant areas are nice but that's where it ends. The rooms are dated as far as the walls and a/c unit. The bathtubs are old and small. The bed is comfortable and the pillows are nice. The room is very humid even with the air on so everything feels damp. The front desk staff were wonderful especially Martinza who helped me get a better room. I wouldn't stay here again as Homewood Suites nearby is much better value.

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback about your recent stay. It appears that you visited during the Republican National Convention, which was an extremely busy period for the hotel. We are a 100% non-smoking facility, although guests are permitted to smoke in designated areas. We're disappointed to read your comments about cleanliness. We consistently earn cleanliness scores in the "outstanding" range of 94% - 100% during unannounced inspections. We will share your feedback with the appropriate departments and team members.
