My wife and I were takinga cruise out of Port Canaveral, but Orlando flights were almost double what flying into Tampa cost. So, we decided we would fly to Tampa, rent a car and drive across the state for our cruise. Our plans required us to stay one night after our cruise finished, but our flight was at 6:00 AM. So we wanted something close to the airport. The location of the Tampa Marriott could not have been any more convenient. It was located inside the airport terminal.
We arrived late afternoon, returned our rental car and took an elevator up to the correct level. We had to walk through the terminal (but not past security) to find the check in. Signage could have been a little better, but eventually we found the correct wing. Check in was smooth and easy. The service staff was friendly, efficient, and welcoming to us. They provided us the necessary information and instructions to our room. We carried our luggage to the elevator and found our room. While we could see flights taking off and landing around us, the noise from plans was minimal. Clearly sound proofing is heavy in this facility.
Our room was spacious and clean upon entrance. We had to turn the air down to cool off our room (yes - it was warm in mid March!) while we made some phone calls (cell service with AT&T was mostly acceptable - a few dead spots in our room). We then went downstairs to walk around a bit before dinner. We found an outdoor patio for smokers and lounging (as well as the pool) which was NOT sound proofed! We were outside with the planes coming and going.
We went back to the terminal and ate at Carabba's. It is a chain Italian restaurant, but we'd won a little money at the Hard Rock Casino on the way in, so we decided to have a meal on the casino!
We were pretty well dined out since we'd been on the cruise and shared a plate and ate light. Service there was a bit troublesome, but it was a busy airport terminal, so we brought our patience as we nearly fell asleep - quite tired!
We did wake up with the nourishment and returned to our room. We crashed into our comfortable bed and ordered a movie from the TV. It was not high definition, but we caught a movie our busy schedules normally would not allow and then drifted off to sleep - with our 4:30 wake up call awaiting.
We woke up, took quick showers and pulled out of the room a little before 5:00 and found our way to the gate at 5:15 (the adventure that followed is WAY more exciting of a story!) and the goal of an easy hotel for the flight was achieved with great success.
We paid a little more than I would like ($175 for the night), but the old saying of location, location, location surely applies here. The hotel is a nice place to stay. It is very quiet, and quite comfortable. And given another similar scenario, we'd be pleased to stay here.
