In TPA for a business meeting, and decided to book Sailport because of location and description.
Very close to the airport, but ABSOLUTELY NO NOISE.
This is not your average hotel by any means.
Every unit is a fully equipped suite on Tampa Bay.
Plenty of on-site safe and secure parking. 24/7 security on premises.
Minor drawback is that this hotel might be a little hard to find, but its really worth it.
Best bang for the buck in the TPA Airport area.
Friendly, competent desk staff, great housekeeping services.
Units are interestingly designed with separate living room, and bedroom, with a fully equipped(full sized fridge and range and microwave) kitchen designed like a condo.
Visitors should be warned that there is extensive road construction entering/exiting the TPA International Airport, and particularly Route 60 which one takes to get to the hotel.
Due to this construction, allow yourself enough time to get to the terminal during rush hours.
Although I was a single, this would be a great hotel for families.
Parking beneath the hotel with elevators available from the parking area right up to your suite floor.
Pleasant balcony overlooking Tampa Bay.
This hotel has made my permanent list.

  • Liked — Private, condo-like feel in fully equipped units.
  • Disliked — Might be a little hard to find, but its really worth the effort!

I didn't have any of the issues others did. No moldy smelling room or anything like that. Our room was actually pretty clean. I can't really complain about the service or anything. The shuttle van drivers were more than willing to cart us around places, and that was a major bonus due to a rental car company snafu. The outdoor areas were very well landscaped and cleaned. The only real issue that we had was that there was no restaurant in the hotel.. The food options are somewhat limited if you're on foot. You've got "Crabby Bills" which is attached to the Radisson two doors down, or the "Rusty Pellican" which is more upscale, and both are seafood joints..

At first I will admit I was a bit taken aback by the place. When you arrive, there is no big glass door and lobby area with a big marble countertop front desk. The first thing you see is a small dingy little service elevator. That's literally how you get in.. Then you have to take it to the second floor, THATS where the front desk is. On the flip side, unlike a regular hotel, your room is not merely a room, window, bed, TV and dresser. It's a whole apartment. Full kitchen with oven, sink, microwave, full size fridge, and even a dish washer!! Seperate bedrooms, front room, closets, and a balcony facing the water....

It's sort of a different kind of hotel, that's for sure.. Don't expect a Holiday Inn. In fact I'd classify it as something different altogether.. It's more like an apartment complex that they've converted into a hotel..

Overall it's an enjoyable place to stay. Once you get over the initial shock of it not being like a typical hotel, and start to accept it for what it is, you'll see that it's actually a pretty cool place..

We hated our first room - it had a nasty, damp smell, no view and it was much smaller than we had expected (we booked a one-bedroom suite), so we went back and asked to be moved. No problem - the front desk girl was friendly and accommodating and put us in room 338 which was right overlooking the water. It was still the same small room, minus the smell but because it overlooked the water, it seemed less claustrophobic.

This is definitely what would be called "budget" accommodations. I know that the units are individually owned and someone needs to tell the owner of 338 that it's time, well, actually, it way overdue, for an update. Still shabbiness and complete lack of any charm aside, everything worked. The water drained in the shower, the fridge kept things cold, the TV had HBO and there was free hi-speed wireless.

What the place lacked in comfort and luxury it more than made up for by its location (on the water), and the heated outdoor swimming pool with a separate deck for enjoying the view.

The fact that the Rusty Pelican was right next door was also a huge bonus. They have a gorgeous dining room, perfect for romantic sunset dining and the food is pretty darn good.

I would recommend the place for families with little kids and anyone who would not spend a whole lot of time in the room.

  • Liked — The views and outdoor ambiance
  • Disliked — the accommodations themselves

I wouldn't describe this as a resort, or even hotel / motel, it was more like an apartment building. After nearly driving by the place (obscured by the sign) we had an easy check in, with plentiful welcome coffee at reception.

Our room was right on the end by the waterfront so we had superb unobstructured views over the inlet.

The accommodation itself was good, and as we were on the end our room wasn't passed by other residents, so it was quiet. The apartments were very well equipped and pretty clean (although a fresh shower curtain would have been nice!) and there was a handy laundry facilities on the 2nd floor.

It had a small private beach / sand pit which we didn't have time to use, probably a good thing as in no way would it have accommodated too many people.

Special mention of staff goes to Jeffery on night reception, who was very helpful in finding me a safe place to run in the morning (as I didn't want to drive to the gym). Through not fault of the complex there are few places to run, but he gave me his best recommendation which was just fine.

  • Liked — Outstanding views, and with facilities akin to our own home
  • Disliked — No complimentary breakfast (and no paper)

We stayed here for 1 week during September. We wanted to save a little money and we did! I thought this place was great! Great pool, great front desk, privacy, and close to EVERYTHING in Tampa! Rooms were fine, a little outdated, but overall, I would highly recommend the Sailport. We had a blast!!!
