“Just ok-airport hotel feel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

My family and I stayed at the grand hyatt before our cruise and we felt it was ok. The entrance and lobby are beautiful and the room was nice but nothing spectacular. The finishes are nice but seem cheap. They woudn't give us a room with a view since we were only staying one night and said we were with the cruise line. The breakfast buffet in the morning was our only option to eat and cost us $45 dollars for 2 people. You would think for that price it would be spectacular but it definitely was not. Overall, the experience was ok but I would not stay there again.

We stayed in a Casita suite and it was exceptionally nice. The Casita area is completely separate from the main hotel and has its own separate pool and small beach area, along with beautifully landscaped grounds and a very nice Koi pond. Our room was very spacious and had an upstairs master suite with bathroom and a downstairs living room/dining room/kitchen area that was very nice and comfortable. We enjoyed our time very much and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Its a nice area right on the bay with tennis and baskeball courts, and a very nice nature walk area. The price was not too steep and I will definately be staying here again next time I'm in Tampa.

The Grand Hyatt is a nice hotel near the Tampa airport. The property is large and busy. We stayed in a standard hotel room. That's what it was - standard. The bed was comfortable and the view was amazing, but everything else was pretty ordinary. Breakfast was expensive for what it was. Room service automatically includes a 22% surcharge. The bottle of water in the room is $4, and wi-fi was $10 a day. On the positive side, parking was free. If you are staying here and visiting Tampa, you will need to rent a car. There is nothing within walking distance of this hotel. Dowtown Tampa is a $30 cab ride in each direction. Overall, a nice place.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the bay.

The Hotel Location is nice but is like you are in an island (all around is H. Ways and Lakes). You will not be able to walk arround the block. Nice view from rooms
Room was OK but with some humidity Smell (Something that I hate).
Nice building and Parking lot. Ok for the price.

I had stayed here some time back on a business trip. I was with my family this time after several days in Disney. We stayed five nights and really enjoyed ourselves. I struggled whether to stay in the hotel or the cabanas. Glad I picked the tower as it was very quiet and never heard a plane once. Staff was overly friendly. Got an excellent rate on their website with a $25 a day credit. Agree food was overpriced, but it is Hyatt. Since I am a gold member they did not charge me for the internet. If I had t pay for that, this review would have been a little different. Room was nice and large. Overheard they are going to begin renovating in March. Hard to believe. Went to the pool out by the water this time. Very relaxing. Small bar and you could order food. Hammocks, ping pong, pier, a beach ( with no water access), but very nice, music, lemon water for free. Spent some very relaxing days by the pool Definitely won me over. Would definitely stay here again if the price is right. Only complaint is the electrical outlets were sparse. Had a nice New Years party also with no cover.

Recently we traveled to the Grand Hyatt in Tampa Bay. We booked a room in the Casitas and asked that we be close to the koi pond. Upon arrival, we were given the room and taken out to the casita area via golf cart. The kids thought this was great. It was gorgeous out there. When we arrived at our room, there were very "yappy" dogs next door and a huge party going on a few casitas down from us. Not where we wanted our kids to be. We could tell that the area was not as monitored as we would like. We attempted to open the patio doors and found them to be jammed shut. We got them open to find that the bottom of one of the doors was broken. This left the room non-secure. We asked to be moved. We were placed in the room next to loud party in there adjoining room. We toured 2 other rooms to find there patio doors insecure as well. We carried our own luggage back to the main tower. Once there we were given a room on the bay side on the 8th floor. I would recommend not going any lower or going on the non-bay side. The noise from the planes on that side is Very loud.

When we settled in to the tower (which is geared much more towards business travel), we ate at the lobby bar. We had great service and great food. We suggest the chips and salsa! They will make anything for the kids, just ask. The pool service, petey browns and the lobby manager were amazing. This for sure helped. The pool at the tower was great. The casita pool and beach area weren't as well taken care of since they were out away from the hotel. The boardwalk to the gazebo is perfect for morning walks and to see the sunset.

We did find out that the whole hotel is slated for renovations come March. So I would wait until they are finished.

Make sure to get Alex at Petey Browns. He is super nice and very accommodating!

Room Tip: bay view in the tower, higher floor!

This hotel is a joke. No bath fan in bath, human hair all over bath floors, charge $10 a day for internet. The food is second rate and way overpriced! I would never recomend this place to anyone.
