“A Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2010

This hotel was enjoyable to stay in. The 24-floor lobby made the views stunning while the glass elevator was great to see the lights of Tampa outside as well as the hotel pool and Tampa Bay. Looking out of the room the sights were also beautiful, including the St. Pete Forum all lit up at night. The rooms were quiet and Hilton quality. I enjoyed the ample sugar and creamer for my coffee - unusual in a self-serve kitchen nook. The complimentary breakfast was good, serving the standard omelets, eggs, bacon, sausage, oj, etc.,..and I enjoyed that they served it until 10:30. Valet was the only parking available that I knew of, $20 and internet was $14.95/stay. The pool outside on the third floor was beautiful on a sunny Tampa day. Very good location and I felt safe as a solo traveler. There was a Starbucks right in the building - a nice surprise. The staff were wonderfully friendly and overall this was a very pleasant experience.

On the positive side, being within walking distance of the hockey arena and the amazing views from our 19th floor windows. Enjoyed the free HBO, room was clean and comfortable, managers reception and breakfast were good. Location was great for taking a long relaxing walk along the harbor and watching cruise ships depart. A small bar called Trolley's was actually very good, had an amazing grouper sandwich and chicken quesidillas. On the less than positive side, elevators are very slow, parking is a confusing nightmare but the attendants are very sweet gentlemen who try to be helpful under less than ideal circumstances. Our biggest complaint was a wedding banquet attendee staying in the next room, my family member who was sleeping on the fold out sofa heard what sounded like the drunken gentlemen urinating on the hallway carpet when he couldn't get into his room at 1 am.

The rooms here are nice, and close to the convention center.

The service was poor and lackluster, from the check in to to the breakfast buffet.

Many items in the room such as coffee , etc were missing. The elevator was down for almost two days.

$14.95 for internet is a huge turn off, next time I'll stay at the Marriott and get the points. Once you factor in the internet cost you might as well stay at the Marriott.

I think this is a pretty good hotel. Next to the convention center - good hotel for business travelers. My window had a beautiful view of the river and the sunrises were amazing!! Good toiletries/products. The room was spacious, the bathroom recently redone, new fixtures, etc. The sitting area was not great - decent table and chairs with an uncomfortable sofa - but it was functional... The breakfast was standard - good MTO eggs.

The fitness center was a joke. There are 2 treadmills, 1 elliptical, and 1 cycle. You'd have better luck just going outside for a walk/run along the river, which is gorgeous! Also, the restaurant connected to the hotel had sub-par food - but its decent for a drink.

The lobby was full of tables and chairs which made having meetings during the convention very easy. The Marriott across the street is much more impressive decor wise - but not as functional to get a group of 4-6 people seated close enough to converse.

I recently spent 3 nights at the Embassy Suites while attending a trade show at the attached convention center. It's a beautiful hotel with an impressive lobby and upscale feel. I had a room on the 14th floor with a great view of the bay. It was so convenient to walk on a short pathway right to the convention center. The hot breakfast was great each morning with delicious made-to-order omelets. The suite was great with luxurious bedding and a convenient desk in the living area for work. The staff were all helpful too. I love staying at Embassy Suites and will be staying at one next week in another city. I highly recommend this location.

Went on a business trip, took the family along with me. Food at restaurant is limited and pricey. MANDATORY valet parking for $20 a night and $15 a night for wireless internet? Ridiculous! If you want to get something out of your car, the valet has to bring it around; you have no access to your vehicle to load or unload bags at your leisure.

Rooms were fine but hotel staff was nowhere to be found most of the time. Free coffee downstairs, but no cups, creamer or sugar! Starbuck's closes at 8:00pm, so forget a late cup of coffee. Breakfast buffet is over at 9:30, and after getting the kids ready, we missed it. Had to buy a cup of fruit from Starbuck's. Giant ear-shattering fan in the back of the hotel means you have to shout back and forth with the valet guys to hear each other.

Definitely not for families; not much flexibility. We could have chosen a Hampton with a comparable room for half the price, a real pool, free parking, and free internet. In the future, we definitely will.

I have to agree with some of the other reviews - this place is really overpriced. The rooms were not overly clean, and the bathroom was really small. It is convenient to the convention center, but without free wi-fi (which is available just outside the doors at the nearest bus stop!) it wasn't at all business-friendly. There is a "business center" with extremely slow computers and an almost unusable printer. The hotel also chose to block ESPN when the local Tampa Bay Rays game was on, and doesn't get Sunshine Network so baseball wasn't available on other days either. They would not provide late checkout, even though our convention ended 15 minutes before the check-out time. Most of the rooms open up onto the open lobby, and some nights it was really loud on even the upper floors from the lower bar area.

There are other downtown hotels - I'd look at them a bit closer before I'd stay here.
