“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Hotel was a comfortable place to stay. Only spent one night there but was pleased with the ease of getting around. Had a trolley right outside of the hotel. Nice view of the water and it is close enough to walk to it.

Valet parking is expensive so be prepared.

Room Tip: Recommend the higher floors away from the streets, you can hear street noise if you are facing the m...

My girlfriend and I stayed in this hotel strictly because of its location, which is right next door to the Tampa Bay Times Forum (minus a parking garage that separates one from the other). For the price I paid for a "suite" ($320+tax per night) I expected a lot more than what we got. Now granted, this hotel certainly has a few amenities that most hotels don't. One being the breakfast offered each morning. The other being the managers buffet in the early evening.

Breakfast Buffet: Made to Order Omelets, Cold Cereals, Yogurt, Fresh Fruit, Muffins/Pastries/Bagels, Juices & Coffee

Manager's Buffet: Free Alcohol, Miscellaneous Finger Foods (Although to be fair, my girlfriend and I decided not to stand around in the line for the bar, as it wrapped around the HUGE downstairs lobby, with only one bartender working the bar. It easily would have taken us 25 minutes just to be served. No drink, regardless of its frugality appeal, is worth standing in line a half hour for. Call me crazy, but my time is certainly better spent doing other things. Like pre-gaming via $9 Beer Night at The Forum.

The "suite" we had was a average room, with a separate living room. It was nothing spectacular, and I've certainly stayed in rooms that were just as nice at half the price. However, location is what was important to us, so hence my initial decision.

Simply put, if location is your only concern, and value isn't on your list of Must Have's in a hotel, then by all means, this is the place for you. Otherwise, find a cheaper hotel in the area.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites for the Bon Jovi concert. It is a nice property. We found the room clean. We have stayed here before and find the service very good and consistent.

Pros:
1. We like having a suite. More room is nice. With a high floor, it is a pretty view of the city.
2. The free hot breakfast is great. Good choices and lines early are not that bad.
3. The free happy hour is nice, but the last few stays we have encountered very long lines so do not expect to drink very much. With each room key, you can get 2 drinks so get two in case you cannot make it through the line again.
4. A great location to the convention center, port and forum. Walk to all!!!!

Cons:
1. The onsite restaurant/bar is very limited. They do not even have a chicken sandwich. We walked to Champs at the Marriott for a sandwich.
2. $22 to park per day, really???

Synopsis:
We always have a good visit at this property. We will continue to make this our downtown Tampa property of choice.

Day 1: ltr from management: "sorry, no hot water from 4:00-5:30pm." Okay fine.

Day 2: upon waking -- loud (like in your own room, loud) construction. I call the desk and a nice employee offers me a free movie and says construction will end that day. We're gone most of the day and at night the noise is sporadic but somewhat tolerable.

Day 3: ltr from management: sorry our phones don't work. You can't call for your $22/day car to be brought up, room service, etc. Huge bottleneck in the garage -- 15 minute wait to exit.
Construction continues 24/7. It's ridiculous. Call front desk again at 11:55PM and ask when construction will be over. Night desk man says he doesn't know but "it will not go on through the night." Offers to move us to a new room (at midnight) and I say surely there has to be some remedy other than moving rooms at this late hour. He says no, I tell him my remedy will be this review, he says fine, seems to care not one bit, and we hang up.

Day 4: stay tuned. The construction men drop hammers every minute or so; it's like Chinese water torture.

So there you have it: my review and the incredibly NOT responsive service. The rooms were clean, beds decent, valet staff were lovely, and the free omelettes were good. And that's all she wrote. Will never stay here again.

Room Tip: Corner overlooking bay IF you get an agreement in writing, in advance, that there will be no constru...

Large well appointed rooms. Great location. Walking distance to restaurants and points of interests. Safe environment and pleasant atmosphere for leisurely walking. It was great having the trolley stop at the hotel location. The Forum and Convention Center were next door to the hotel. The suite rooms are great. I prefer more private living space than the large lobby space that looks great but not necessary for me when traveling on business.

While staying at this Embassy Suites I find it hard to believe some of the reviews I have read. As far as the rooms go, yes, very good and met the Embassy Suite reputation, staff...I have never met more rude, disinterested, bored people working a hotel. The front desk was understaffed, offered to call when my room was ready, that call never came, asked for some information on local pizza places, they just handed me a phone book... The so call "Managers Reception" that we were invited to..."Because you're so special to us", was a joke, and yes we laughed out loud...Salsa & tortilla chips, Ranch dip & potato chips & pretzels...Really.. I guess the Embassy Suites in Ohio where I've stayed and enjoyed a full hot bar of appetizers was a fluke...If we stay again I will know what to expect.
