My husband and I and our two daughters (17 & 20) have just returned from our holiday in Orlando and St Petes and having previously been recommended Berns we decided to treat ourselves to the Berns Experience.
I had already visited their website and knew the menu and wine list were impressive but from the moment we stepped through the door we knew this was a really special place.
Our daughters choose the 16oz Delmonico between them and my husband and I shared the 17oz Chateaubriand. Both were cooked to perfection and came with French Onion Soup (to die for), salad, a baked potato, onion rings and vegetables. Added to this we were served garlic bread and little cheesy toasts part way through the meal. The whole meal was delightful and tasty and we were particularly surprised at the difference in flavour between the 2 cuts of meat. As I said before, the Onion soup was delicious, and even my youngest daughter, who hates onions with a passion, ate all of hers.
The service was second to none and although our waiter (sorry can't remember the gentlemans name) had other customers to tend to, he made us feel as if we were the only people there. He discussed the meal and wine options with us and helped us choose the right steaks and salad dressings for us.
When the main meal was over we did the kitchen and wine cellar tour which was very informative and then we moved to the dessert room to finish the perfect evening. The choice of desserts was impressive and I settled for the macadamia icecream with chocolate sauce. My husband had Tiramisu and my daughters shared Chocolate Layer Cake Jones. Again the service was great and the privacy of the cask setting with it's own choice of music was so different and special.
All in all this was as special as we had been told and we will certainly go back. I don't think it was overly expensive. I have paid similar prices before but usually in restaurants which serve "A picture on a plate".
Berns delivered a high quality experience from the moment we entered the building and we certainly weren't hungry when we left.
