My husband and I treated ourselves to a romantic getaway at this wonderfully restored hotel. We loved everything about it, and we especially loved that is was not another cookie cutter hotel. It has been restored to its original grandeur, the rooms are comfortable, the food is delicious, the servers were attentive to our needs. Our visit to the hotel was a pleasant experience. There is no other hotel like it in downtown Tampa. It was definitely a perfect weekend getaway.

The hotel has been revitalized nicely, however the staff and the menu have a very long way to go. Nostalgia abound but ......it' needs to take a step forward with service and ambiance but overall they are trying very hard. I expect them do do much better in the future.

We did not stay at the Floridan, but we did enjoy Sunday lunch there last Sunday. The hotel is an old Tampa landmark. It fell into disrepair and was abandoned for years. A seven year restoration project made the Floridan Palace beautiful again. Entering through the lobby, you see that the chandeliers and ceiling are beautifully restored. While the restaurant is small, the food is delicious and the service is very good. I had the calamari, brown, crunchy, and delicious. Complemented by great bread and other dishes, we had a great meal. I would have lunch at the Floridan Palace again. SInce I have family in Tampa, a stay there is unlikely.

Very impressive historical rennovation. Nice, old-world lobby. An "on the edge" neighborhood, at best. Mustly smelling hallways. Bar closed at 9pm; no way to get a drink after that. No coffee available in the morning -- front desk guy told me to walk three blocks to a starbucks, located in another hotel (where I should have stayed). Hotel looked to have very low occupancy, as best I could tell. No blanket or comforter on the bed. TV did not have CNN. No room service available. No business center. No hot water in the shower or sink; best it got was luke warm. There was a fax number on the phone, where presumably a guest could have a fax sent, but the front desk guy (working alone) had never heard of that number. The working fax machine was locked in manager's office, so not available at night. The front desk folks were OK but did not appear to have any hospitality training. The whole experience can best be compared to staying in an inner-city YMCA. When I was 19, traveling around the world on $25 a day, that was great. I loved such places. They were a respite from the nights I spent sleeping in train stations. But now, as a business traveler, not so much. And the price of this hotel was not so cheap. If it were $45 a night, I would say "go for it; just have reasonable expectations" For $175 a night, I would say "pick ANY other hotel in Tampa."
