“nice and it is free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

took several friends with children there this winter. The children were thrilled with the manatees. They thought the babies were "neat". When we went we were the only ones there so we had a good view.

“A fall / winter experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

There is nothing to see here when the bay water temp is high. However if you visit this area in the late fall through early spring it is a great educational experience. Hundreds of Manatee live in the power plant cooling pool. There are education areas and a nicer gift shop. Best of all it is free.

“Manatees in natural habitat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Nice day trip to view Manatees in their natural habitat. On the day I visited there were a lot of manatee's around. Viewing center closes in April and opens again in November when the gulf temp drops. Remember to walk down the long path all the way to the end where you'll see more than Manatees. I saw various types of fish and dolphins.

“Good Learning Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

First off DO NOT try to go here in the summer. The best times to go are between November and March. The colder the ocean waters are the more Manatees and other fish (even sharks) you will see. It is cool to see when a group of them surfaces and you see all their flippers. It is also neat to see how many species of the ocean can live and survive in one place. Another attraction that I find very amazing is seeing the TECO Power plant just across the river. Hugs and massive. Amazing the this place produces our energy. Kids of all ages, even the seniors, love this place and can spend plenty of time just watching the oceans wonders. Never tryed the food there, but there is some available. Picnic area is available and did have a wonderful picnic with the kids. Gift shop available so keep the kids out of that or you will go home with a squeaky Manatee!!!! Fun day trip!!!

“Manatee viewing in Apollo Beach”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is a nice little area that TECO put up, because the warm effluent water from the coal plant attracts the manatees in winter (Nov. - March). If you have never seen a manatee before, this is not the best viewing area, as you only get to see their heads and backs from a boardwalk. However, there is a free little museum that you can go through first to learn about manatees. At least, it is a place for them in the wild and they are not in tanks. Handicapped and stroller accessible. It is worth a short trip and takes less than an hour to view.
