Balcony seats in the 2700-seat Morsani hall @ Straz for Leonard Cohen's 3.5 hour show. Worth the price, without a doubt! Right from the get-go, their direct ticket sales from the center, rather than a 3rd party scalper like Ticketmaster is a HUGE plus! Arriving at the center, we parked next door at Howard Johnson hotel for $5, which was literally only 1 minute walk from the theater. Nice architecture, fountains and landscaping provide lots of great Kodak opportunities. Inside is fairly generic, but definitely not bad at all. The employees were some of the nicest we've ever encountered at a live show; hard to pinpoint exactly why - they were just relaxed, mellow, smiley, friendly, polite, etc... seemed glad to be working there and glad to see each person attending. Seating inside was adequate in all regards. The signs to each of the many sections could be slighty more helpful, but again, the employees easily made up for that. Distance from the stage was not an issue, although binoculars were recommended, and we were very happy to have heeded that advice! There doesn't seem to be any 'bad' seats in the house, as all have unobstructed views and the acoustics were very precisely designed to give everyone a perfect sound delivered to their seat, regardless of where it is. No resonence/echos, no muffles - just clear, crisp projection as if you were only feet away from the singers! We could clearly see each person on the stage, but the binoculars were necessary to see details and expressions on their faces. The only improvement I'd like to see is a slight recline to the seat backs; the are comfortably cushioned, but perhaps a bit too upright for an extended sit. On the upside, legroom was just perfect and it was easy to stretch out as needed.
I can easily say I recommend the Straz Center for nearly any event, and although you may find some better venues for various performances, you really won't be disappointed here.
