“I felt like Tippy Hedren”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Don't even think about finding this place without a GPS; there's more twists and turns getting down to the waterfront than in a pretzel factory. Valet parking will add twenty bucks to the price of the room, so know that going in and you won't be shocked. Lobby is impressive, as is the front desk staff. Room was clean and nicely appointed; plenty of outlets on the base of the lamps for recharging i-phones, laptops and GPS. We had a room on the 18th floor that overlooked the harbor....sort of.....almost. It was as good a water view that you'll get at this hotel, but it falls a little short of actually being on the waterfront; the hotel itself sits on a canal. We ordered breakfast to be served on our balcony. Food was quite good, but eggs, bacon, a juice, toast and coffee for two will set you back nearly fifty bucks with the service charge; pricey by even Marriott standards. Eating on the balcony comes with entertainment that rivals anything you'll see at Disney Hollywood; a real live seagull attack a la Tippy Hedren in the Birds. Don't assume that these scavangers won't notice a few crumbs just because you're 18 stories up; I had to defend myself twice before moving the rest of the food inside, so don't be leaving any small children or dogs outside by themselves. All in all, an okay property; typical Marriott pricing, reasonable room rate with lot's of high priced extras: water, parking, room service etc. Easy walking distance to convention center, and we ate at a great restaurant just across the bridge; Jackson's.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for the "water" view

an upgrade gets you a partial view of the water; no upgrade gets you a view of other buildings; a double upgrade gets you a small terrace. This is a typical conference hotel that is extremely convenient to the conference center but to not much else. Staff, however, is extremely friendly and helpful and so once's stay is usually enjoyable. The new heaters in the outdoor patio add a lot to the outside venue but the hotel still has a huge lobby that is not particularly conducive to private conversations.

Room Tip: you need a lot of marriott points and request a double upgrade to get a decent view.

My wife and I stayed here the night before our cruise departure. I used rewards points to book the stay and chose the hotel due to its location to the cruise terminal. The hotel is a short cab ride from the airport ($25) and the staff greeted us as we arrived. We checked in at the front desk and I asked for a nice room with a view. We were upgraded to a fantastic suite with a full balcony (Governors) that overlooked the bay. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful during our short stay. This hotel is located right on the river walk and also next to the trolley service that gets you around downtown for a small fee ($2.50) The hotel is also very close to the cruise terminal and its a quick ($6) cab ride down to the terminal for departures. We also asked for a late check out the next day as the boarding time was early afternoon for our cruise and this was no issue. A great stay and I look forward to coming back here on any future visits to Tampa!

Enjoyed our stay. We arrived early, no problem with an early check-in. Hotel was very easy to find from Tampa airport. We valet parked our rental car. Attendants curbside where very pleasant and eager to assist. At check-in everyone was very helpful & friendly. Pointing out local attractions we may like to see. We met friends out that night, getting our car was hassle free & fast. Hotel lobby was beautiful. Would definitely stay here again!

This hotel is a great location for any one attending the Tampa Convention Center. The rooms were comfortable and the view over the water was awesome. I especially enjoyed the concierge Robin who was most helpful and finding us restaurants and transportation to the location we wanted to go to. The trolley is less than a block away so Ybor City is an easy connection. Did not like the $4 bottles of water hook in the room and lack of a refrigerator. The coffee in the room was good but the breakfast we had there was delicious. The restaurants on site offered a variety of foods , but we only went to the cafe.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the water

We went for an overnight stay. The hotel and it's Italian restaurant were
of the high quality we expect from Marriott. The thing that bugged me was the $14.95 charge per day for local telephone calls and the Internet connection in the room. They had Wi-Fi in the lobby area for free.I really hate unbundling of services like the airlines do.Also there was no info in the room about this extra charge;nor was there any info on Tampa and its attractions available in the room. I really like the Marriott brand and would hate to see them lose their great reputation by changing the way they have done business.

Thank you for recent posting and for your kind words about our Italian restaurant. Please know that we regularly compare our price for internet with other hotels in the local area in order to ensure we remain competitive. Moving forward we will certainly take your advice and find a creative way to advertise the internet price better in the room. We will also consider placing the Tampa Guide in a more prominent place in the guest room. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to improve on our services.

We were there for a getaway weekend and really enjoyed the hotel. Upon check in, we asked for a view of the water and was granted an upgrade at no charge. The location is great for walking. If you aren't a fan of walking, the trolley system takes you to many of the key locations you might want to get to such as Ybor City. We stayed in this area a few years ago when Channelside was a little more exciting and happening...many of the businesses have left the area along with the nightlife. Back to the hotel, the service was wonderful by all employees we came in contact with. We went to the sports bar located in the hotel and found them very accommodating since they were really supposed to be closing! They had multiple events going on in the hotel the weekend we were there and people had been drinking at weddings and military events. Of course, with alcohol comes hunger! They stayed open for people who were just walking in as they were closing. The waiter continued to smile even though he was really off the clock. That is service. If you are an athletic person who likes to get outside to exercise, the area around the hotel is excellent for running/walking.

Room Tip: We had a higher room on the waterside. It was very quite even though there were so many special even...
