My boyfriend and I LOVE Ploy Thai. It's our favorite restaurant. As a few others have said, it really is a "hidden gem"...hidden in that, it's tucked away in the corner of a small strip mall of other restaurants in Cross Creek...a gem in that it's awesome! And as another reviewer also said, it looks very tiny from the outside, but it's much bigger on the inside.
The dim lighting is great for a more romantic atmosphere, but I routinely see families dining there...I think kids like the fountain in the middle of the dining room and all of the statues. I remember going once with a good friend and she brought her 2 young sons with her, and they were mesmerized by the fish tanks that you pass on your way to the bathrooms.
So many great things about this restaurant. The food is always excellent--never had a bad meal here. Even once when I ordered the wrong thing by mistake, my food was still good! Their lunch specials in particular are great--$8.95 for chicken and rice soup, curry puff appetizer, grouper with panang sauce, white rice, and a variety of vegetables, and a bite-sized fruit dessert...awesome deal! My boyfriend and I both love the panang seafood special. I've also had panang chicken, and panang chicken and shrimp...all are excellent, but the grouper special with it is the best. Their pad Thai is also really good, with either seafood or chicken. I had a special there before as well, that consisted of chicken and shrimp with white rice in a really thick, flavorful peanut sauce...very good! My boyfriend's favorite is a seafood special for dinner--I can't remember what it's called, but it's HUGE! It's got so much seafood, and for the price, it's quite a value! I've tried it before and it's really good. Portions are very generous here, so come hungry, or be prepared to take some home! :) And if you can find room for dessert, try the Thai donuts...delicious!! The dipping sauce for them is soooo good.
As for the service, again, never been disappointed. Everyone is very friendly and attentive and will help with any questions you have when ordering. We actually went for Valentine's Day this year, and even though they were very crowded, we were still given the great attention we were any other time we've gone. And since it was Valentine's Day, I was given a huge red rose, and we were both given chocolates--how sweet!
If you like Thai food, or have never had it and are looking for somewhere new to try, I can't recommend this place more. My boyfriend and I have been dining here consistently for about 2 years now, at least once a month, and have never before had a bad experience. :)
