Aside from connecting the southern tip of Pinellas County to the mainland south of Tampa, the bridge itself deserves a stop in one of the two fishing piers. There are places to take some scenic views of both Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. There is shipping traffic to watch. There is some fantastic fishing, attested by all those who will go and spend an hour -- or a day -- catching their favorite fish. The rest rooms are clean and well appointed. Access from either direction is easy. One could pack a picnic basket and make a day out of just going to the piers.
