“Great hotel even better location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

This hotel has a fantastic location just a short drive to downtown and beaches and has stunning views across tampa bay from all rooms. The staff are friendly and professional and room bathrooms are one of the best we have seen. We have stayed at this hotel several times and look forward to returning again soon.

We stayed at this hotel for my son's wedding. He had booked a block of rooms there since it was convenient to the wedding venue. The hotel is pet friendly and the staff isn't very accommodating about offering pet free areas. All you get is a room-everything else is an extra charge.
Wifi-$9.95 per day. There is a charge for using the business room should you not want to pay for Wifi. Parking is $5 per day, which they neglected to tell us upon arrival. There is a refrigerator in the room filled as a mini bar so it cannot be used, but if you need an extra refrigerator the charge is $10 per day. We bought a cooler.
We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and the waiter poured orange juice in our glasses(without asking)before the coffee and then charged us $3 per glass. We got an apology for slick trick.
BEWARE of the extra and hidden charges.
The only nice thing I could say is the room is very clean.

Dear Marlene S,

I received an email about your recent visit to the Westin Tampa Bay. Please accept my sincere apologies for your dissatisfaction with your stay.

We do have designated pet floors, but unfortunately we are unable to keep guests from taking their pet to another floor to visit other guests, which is what I believe to have happened in this case. Also, please allow me to apologize for us not informing you of the parking charges at your time of arrival. I have addressed this issue with the staff to avoid any further issues. I am happy to hear that Angela removed the charges once she was made aware of the charges.

We take your comments very seriously and we truly apologize for our poor execution. We always strive to provide our guests with an experience that is at least 100% of their expectations, and we apologize for falling short of the mark with you. Rest assured your comments have been shared with our Management Team, so that we can grow and improve our level of service.

Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of the issues you encountered. We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you on your next visit to Tampa.

Sincerely,

SCOTT

Like others I am more inclined to write if things have not been good during a particular stay but on this occasion I would very much wish to acknowledge the tremendous help that we had from one of the staff at this hotel.

I am a UK based retired police officer and my wife, British Airways.

Having to travel the 1000 mile+ journey by road from Houston to Tampa and after experiencing engine cut-outs which required two major cool down periods before we were able to continue our journey, we arrived at the hotel, parked the car and not surprisingly went straight to bed. The following day, we found that our car had a flat battery, I assume a symptom of the previous faults on route.

I immediately called the hire company (Avis) who amazingly demanded $50 call out fee from Tampa Airport which was approximately 2miles from our hotel for a fault on their vehicle.

Learning of our plight, the hotel engineer a young man called Jose offered to help. After some difficulty he had to abandon his attempts using the hotel equipment. Our only option was to get to the shopping arcade and try to purchase leads in an attempt to get the car mobile. We were aware that the hotel could understandably help no further, but hey! Jose was not giving up. Quite surprisingly he managed to borrow leads locally and searched for us within the hotel tp prevent us going off to the shopping mall. Using his own car he then got us going.

Not much really you may think, but this young man clearly went that extra mile to ensure one of his guests were not left stranded when the easy option would have been to forget us. Overall, the staff were most polite and helpful and I would recommend this hotel to all.

'We will be back' - Westin, you have a great ambassador in Jose. !!

You would expect this to be a stellar hotel, given the name and location. It is NOT! The rooms are no better than a Clarion or Super 8. The rooms are dirty, the beds uncomfortable and the bathroom wasn't clean. 1. They attempt to charge you for things you didn't use in the hotel. 2. I originally booked the hotel for 2 nights. When I checked in, I stated that I would likely be checking out 1 day early. When I left in the morning, I informed the desk agent that I was checking out early. He said "no problem". Then when i got my final bill, I was charged for TWO NIGHTS! Of course I called the manager and he said "there is nothing I can do about it". What?? Are you in the habit of paying for anything that you don't receive? Would you pay for a car that you never got? What the hell? Perhaps the most aggravating part of the entire experience was the attitude of the manager -- He absolutely doesn't care if I tell everyone about his lack of concern or the condition of the property. He was very cavalier about treating the customers poorly. Aren't they in the hospitality business? There are a LOT of other places to stay. BEWARE!! If you choose to stay here, you do so at your own risk. Be careful.

We concluded a conference on this property this week with out-of-town and local participants. The local guests were met with inadequate parking each day and forced to only use the hotel's for-a-fee parking. Their parking lot is solely "compact cars only". A parking space preservation method logical business owners dropped years ago due to the lunacy of that approach.

The offerings for dining nearby are absent as this property sits on a busy highway surrounded by a few office buildings. You must have a car or taxi for any dining options.

The remainder of the facilities were consistent with what you would expect for a 3-4 years old property.

Hello Mike T,
Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts. We certainly do value your feedback and take it very constructively. I would like to apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced and for any misinformation that you may have received. Our parking options are either self or valet and both are available for a very competitive charge of $5 per day and we have more than aenough spots when you combine the two options. You are correct that there are not many dining options within walking distance aside from our all day restaurant Aqua or nearby Bahama Breeze. However, we do provide complimentary shuttle service 24/7 to the Westshore area which is 2 miles away and has well over 100 restaurants to choose from. it is truly a restaurant mecca and does not require a cab. Once again i would like to apologize for not doing a better job of having that info communicated to you and hopefully you will consider us in the future.
Stay well,
Ron

Great location while on the road. Beach hotels were booked, the drive to the beach was a snap. My room overlooked Tampa, the view was lovely. Arrived in the evening, the staff was pleasant and informative. I requested a rollaway bed for 10 dollars, Teresa arrived in seconds, made the bed in minutes and with a smile. I was impressed with the rollaway, very comfortable. Wonderful outside setting for breakfast or just enjoy tea or coffee while reading the paper, however, you are facing the causeway and it is a bit noisy. The buffet looked yummy but I chose to snack upstairs at the Club room for a continental breakfast, the room is a bit small, great for a quick bite. Again the staff was pleasant. They offer a small beach area to soak up the sun and a boat dock is available. However, the water was a bit murky. Great Hotel while on the road.

Room Tip: Rooms towards Tampa offer a lovely view.
