“Beautiful views of Tampa Bay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2011

I recently stayed here for business. The hotel and amenities were great! Had read some complaints about the "private" beach being next to Freeway. The one day I got to take for myself was 87 degrees and sunny....honestly, I lounged on one the hotels chairs and thought...what freeway? What more could you want? Sun , sand, bar within steps, and Starbucks! Personally the only things that disappointed me was the restaurant food and the Executive floor. Restaurant food was over priced and just average. Having access to the Executive level excited me....free breakfast, and Happy hour. Breakfast was nice but disappointing to me as a low carb follower.....was hoping for some scrambled eggs and cheese. Nothing like that! Plenty of breads, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal and fruit. Also, I would have thought that they would have given at least one complimentary drink at happy hour. Hotel is a little out of the way from the downtown area but quite nice to stay at.

Room Tip: ask for a higher floor for better views of the sunset

The location of the hotel would be a downside for this hotel serving as a vacation stay. The hotel does border a body of water, which made the views out of the window very pretty. In general the location was isolated from other Tampa activities. The hotel was very close to the Tampa airport which was nice to have when I arrived late on a weeknight. The front desk staff were cool, we played Wii bowling together one night before retiring to bed. The front desk staff were able to help provide me with a shuttle to my business meeting places each day. The bar staff were friendly and helpful with dinner recommendations external to the hotel's option.

The Westin is a nice, if slightly flawed, hotel. The rooms are large, clean and have great "picture" windows, with great views. The bathrooms are spacious, with a tub and a huge separate shower. The staff are friendly and generally helpful. The hotel offers a useful shuttle service. It's a very nice hotel. But it could be nicer - there are "niggles" that irritate.

The wifi in the hotel is both slow and unreliable - in some rooms you will struggle to get a signal. The room service menu is very limited and not very good value. I have never tasted french-fries that come laden with so much salt before. The A/C units are noisy.

The location is not great - apart from a local bar (Bahama Breeze) there is nowhere nearby to eat, unless you get a cab.

It's by no means a bad hotel - there are many that are a lot worse - but with a few small changes it could be a really nice hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid connecting rooms - the sound-proofing is poor.

Dear Groan,

Thank you very much for staying with us and for taking the time to share your comments, both positive and not-so positive. We encourage feedback and take all comments constructively in hopes of constantly improving our level of service. Without honest and objective input we will struggle to provide service that is truly personal and instinctive.
Rest assured that we have already addressed some of your concerns staring with the simplest by reducing the amount of salt on our french fries. In addition, we have just introduced a completely revised In Room Dining Menu with much greater variety including vegetarian as well as "comfort food" items. We are currently looking into increasing our HSIA bandwidth, yet again, to keep up with the demand and especially the size of the files being uploaded.
Regarding access to local restaurants, we have a complimentary courtesy shuttle which runs 24/7 to all of the local restaurants, both malls, movie theaters and several entertainment venues. The courtesy shuttle departs from the hotel every 30 minutes and picks up upon request. There is no need to take a cab and I truly apologize if you were not informed of this service.
Once again, we thank you for your loyalty and we look forward to the opportunity of providing you with true Westin Hospitality again in the future.

Regards,
Ron Alicandro

Stayed there for business - fantastic room with awesome view of the Bay and downtown - friendly people in the bar where I ate and watched football. Nice room, very comfortable, nice amenities, well situated with easy access to Clearwater or Tampa

Nice restaurants in the vicinity

Room Tip: facing Tampa downtown

I've stayed at the other hotel by Westin - the Westin Harbour Island before which is dated and harder to get to, but maybe fine for those doing things downtown, BUT, I loved this location! It is new, modern, and very well located to the airport and water. A hip bar area, a small beach area that has rental jet skis - (maybe that's not so cool since it's right next to a highway and the water area is a small enclosed place). My kid wanted to go down there and check it out. We didn't have time. Overall this place rocks. The views from high floors are spectacular and the rooms and beds very comfy. Nice Starbucks right in the lobby - always a plus. I did not try any food here since the other restaurant options nearby were more enticing just from my local friend's recommendations. (i.e. Oyster Catchers at sunset !!) I'll definitely choose to stay here next time in Tampa.

Room Tip: high floor and ask if you want to see the sunset, perhaps they can give you a room that allows you t...

My daughter's wedding was held at a nearby venue and the Weston (near the Tampa airport) was highly recommended for our out-of-town guests. We had special requests for our guests and the staff of the Weston so graciously made sure our requests were fulfilled. The hotel was beautiful, and the guest rooms were great and the staff was so nice and a pleasure to work with. The wedding was perfect!

A special thank-you to Jennifer for all your help and kindness, you made us feel like we were your only guests!

Stayed here for 2 nights for business. The hotel is very close to the airport but a bit far from other restaurants etc. as they are a 10-15 min cab ride. There is a Bahama Breeze down the road with good drinks. Very good business hotel - would stay there again.
