“A little dated but good overall value”

Getting to the hotel was a bit of a hassle, there are roadworks currently taking place on the lanes that feed from the interstate towards the property ( a mile or so away) but once we worked out what to do, all was fine.

On checking in, we were assigned a room at the back of the hotel and my wife asked to be re-assigned to something closer to the water. The reception staff sorted this out happily and quickly and we found them to be very helpful throughout our 4 night stay.

I note another reviewer had problems with noise coming from under or just outside the room and we experienced this too, but again, just a quick call to reception and whatever caused the noise was switched off moments later.

The hotel charges for wifi Internet access which I found to be a bit slow and tricky to get working. Again, I mentioned this to the front desk manager and he immediately gave me an access code which resolved the connection problem and waived the charge. I can't fault the staff at all really.

Our new room did smell a little musty on arrival but soon aired out. The room itself was very spacious with a generous living area, huge bed, bathroom and dressing area and a fully equipped (but dated) kitchen. The rooms are not inside a hotel building but located surrounding the main reception and the front doors are accessible by passers by. My wife found this a little disconcerting but the doors were solid and secure and this didn't bother me particularly.

There is little to do in the immediate vicinity but the hotel is convenient for Tampa and the Airport. St Petersburg and St Pete's beach are a short 30 minute drive away, and the main roads to many other attractions are minutes from your door.

If you find yourself back at the hotel on a night I can recommend Bahama Breeze which is a minutes walk away. There are other options and Pizza places etc will deliver quickly. We paid around £65 / $130 (booked through Otel) which I felt represented good value and I can recommend the hotel at that rate.

“Good location for multi-purpose trip”

Chase Suite Hotel Tampa

Apr 21, 2008

My family of 4 (including 2 kids, aged 4 and 15) stayed here for a baby shower this month. We chose this hotel for its location; we needed somewhere that was close to family (in downtown Tampa and Land O'Lakes) and also close to beaches. It wasn't much more than a 30-minute drive to any of these places, so we were happy with the location.

Positives: The 2-bed/2-bath suite with full kitchen was large and suited our needs for a good central base. The property was nice in that it was a townhouse style; not some mega hotel with long corridors and a million rooms. The little pier that juts into the small bay was a hit with my 4-year old for fishing. The pool and spa area was also nice; small but not used by too many so didn't get crowded while we were there. It was also heated which was nice, and open until 10pm. Also nice. The hotel itself is right next door to Bahama Breeze, so easy to walk there for dinner.

Negatives: The living room itself was pretty small and cramped with room for only 3 people to sit comfortably. We did not realise from the website that the suite was loft-style. My son wanted to sleep in the loft which looked so cool to a little kid; unfortunately the wall behind the bed rose only about 2 feet above the bed, then had a 20-30 ft drop down to the living room below. I would not recommend to families with young children because of this. I had to keep tabs on my son every time he wanted to go upstairs. There was no outside area (e.g. balcony or patio) to enjoy, so when our son was sleeping at night we were pretty much stuck in our small living area. The breakfasts, while free, were horrendous. Waffles somehow were awful (tasted bitter), the coffee tasted like cardboard. Even the fruit salad was bad. We tried breakfast for 2 days running, then skipped the third. Not good. Due to warm air rising, the upstairs bedroom got incredibly hot at nights. The cheap Hampton Bay ceiling fan may have helped if it was better quality; as it was it shaked constantly making such a din I couldn't run it. The heat was fine for me, but my husband ended up having to sleep downstairs on the couch as it was way too hot for him.

Overall, it was an okay base for our purposes. I wouldn't recommend for vacations, but for business it was okay. We might stay here again when visiting family due to its location and value for money; we paid an average of $140 a night for 4 people. However, if we did stay again we probably wouldn't bok the 2-bedroom suite due to safety concerns, and the heat of the upstairs room.

“Very Tired”

I travel 15weeks/yr but this is my first expereince with a Chase property. They have all the facilities of a 2.5, or even 3star property and the staff was friendly and helpful. If you need to be near the airport, or access to Clearwater / St Pete's the location is great. Access into Tampa is a bit of a pain. But, here's the real caveat......she's a tired old girl. Outwardly, the resort looks well cared for, behind closed doors....everything was clean, but old, rickety and had the "old musty" character of a Motel. My room was also very, very noisey the result of some recircultating fan or pump of some kind. It wasn't in the unit, but rather just outside or underneath. I didn't complain as I didn't want the hassle of changing rooms and I can sleep through anything....and did. It would keep 9 our of 10 people up and under different circumstances I would have made an issue of it.
Good Luck

My husband and I stayed in a one room suite the night before our cruise out of Tampa. It was great. Room was clean and had a kitchen and living area which was great. The best deal was being able to leave our car there and take their shuttle to the port and to have them pick us up at the end and return to our car. It was stress free and we didn't have to pay all that extra money to park at the pier. The continental breakfast was very good. Especially the option of making your own belgian waffles! Everyone at the hotel was fantastic and super friendly. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Taking a cruise out of Tampa has grown in popularity. We have tailored our Ship to Shore package specifically as you described to reduce the stress of the land to see transfers, thereby extending the enjoyment of your excursion. I am delighted to hear of your enjoyment.

Hopefully we will have the opportunity to entertain you for a longer stay next time, so that you may enjoy all the excitement Tampa has to offer. We look forward to seeing you and serving you on your next visit!

“Just an OK place”

Chase Suite Hotel Tampa

Aug 19, 2007
4/6 found this review helpful

I don't want to sound like a spoiled brat, however, this is place is nothing to get excited about. The rooms look like a small studio apartment more than a hotel room. There is a small living room area with a sofa/ bed and then a bedroom area; the problem is that nothing separates the 2, and if you share the place with kids or other family members, you have no privacy at all. There is also a small kitchen with all the essentials. The bathroom is fine, but nothing special and the toiletries are pretty cheap though. Another problem I found was that the TV location; by the door and the bed is clear across the living room, meaning that if you like to watch TV in bed, like I do, is pretty hard being too far away. The parking is free and also the supposedly Internet connection, however, there is no cable to connect with and even if you have one is pretty difficult. In the lobby there 2 PCs that yo can use for free. There is a manager welcome reception in the evening with very little free food and 2 drinks maximum. The breakfast is also free and just about what you might expect to get for free, cold cereals, a little fruit and some pastries. They have a shuttle that can pick you up and drop you off from the airport if you need that. The staff was pretty nice and helpful. Overall not a horrible place, but not a great one either. There is a Landry's Seefood restaurant (very good), about 5 min walking distance and a Bahama Breeze (just OK) about 2 min.

Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions and experience while our guest at Chase Suites-Tampa. While we strive to provide a comfortable and relaxing accommodation for our guests, we further want to ensure an enjoyable experience through our hospitality.

The suite you stayed in is one of our studio suites, which indeed are configured like a studio apartment—including a full sized, fully equipped kitchen. As mentioned, the layout of this suite presents a greater distance between the bed and the TV than in most hotel rooms primarily due to the greater square footage of the suite. Likewise there is less privacy if traveling as a family or with friends, however we also offer 2-bedroom/2 bath suites that do address these desires. I do apologize if this option was not offered to you.

Your comments on breakfast concern me that we were not “on our game” the morning you were with us. We typically receive great comments about our breakfast buffet and obviously stumbled in this case. We rotate a number of hot items through our buffet, including scrambled eggs, French toast, and of course, the Belgian waffles and fruit toppings that have delighted so many of our guests. I have addressed your experience with our staff to ensure a better, more consistent experience in the future, and apologize for the “just what you might expect for free” impression you received.

I trust we will have the opportunity to strengthen your impression of us on your next visit to Tampa.

Kind regards,
LR Patterson
