My family of 4 (including 2 kids, aged 4 and 15) stayed here for a baby shower this month. We chose this hotel for its location; we needed somewhere that was close to family (in downtown Tampa and Land O'Lakes) and also close to beaches. It wasn't much more than a 30-minute drive to any of these places, so we were happy with the location.
Positives: The 2-bed/2-bath suite with full kitchen was large and suited our needs for a good central base. The property was nice in that it was a townhouse style; not some mega hotel with long corridors and a million rooms. The little pier that juts into the small bay was a hit with my 4-year old for fishing. The pool and spa area was also nice; small but not used by too many so didn't get crowded while we were there. It was also heated which was nice, and open until 10pm. Also nice. The hotel itself is right next door to Bahama Breeze, so easy to walk there for dinner.
Negatives: The living room itself was pretty small and cramped with room for only 3 people to sit comfortably. We did not realise from the website that the suite was loft-style. My son wanted to sleep in the loft which looked so cool to a little kid; unfortunately the wall behind the bed rose only about 2 feet above the bed, then had a 20-30 ft drop down to the living room below. I would not recommend to families with young children because of this. I had to keep tabs on my son every time he wanted to go upstairs. There was no outside area (e.g. balcony or patio) to enjoy, so when our son was sleeping at night we were pretty much stuck in our small living area. The breakfasts, while free, were horrendous. Waffles somehow were awful (tasted bitter), the coffee tasted like cardboard. Even the fruit salad was bad. We tried breakfast for 2 days running, then skipped the third. Not good. Due to warm air rising, the upstairs bedroom got incredibly hot at nights. The cheap Hampton Bay ceiling fan may have helped if it was better quality; as it was it shaked constantly making such a din I couldn't run it. The heat was fine for me, but my husband ended up having to sleep downstairs on the couch as it was way too hot for him.
Overall, it was an okay base for our purposes. I wouldn't recommend for vacations, but for business it was okay. We might stay here again when visiting family due to its location and value for money; we paid an average of $140 a night for 4 people. However, if we did stay again we probably wouldn't bok the 2-bedroom suite due to safety concerns, and the heat of the upstairs room.
