We have lived in the area for almost 14 year,s and have visited Lowry Park Zoo numerous times. Over the years it has "evolved" (the TRUE type of 'evolution', by the way) into a wonderful park for the entire family! Don't get me wrong, we have always enjoyed it. However, the cost of admission did not used to cover the "extras" -- like the rides in the Wallaroo Station and the Carousel. But NOOOOOWWWW.....praise the Lord.....the cost of admission covers these...as they should! There's some very fun rides....the little roller coaster, bumper boats, and the log ride are our family favorites! The only 'extras' you have to pay for separately are for the pony and camel rides.
Our latest trip there was for our school field trip. All the kids had a wonderful time...so did we chaperones! :) It's quite a trek around the zoo....so plan for the day! There's some really cool hands-on things....pet stingrays and/or feed them....feed nectar to Lorikeets, or just let them land on you....feed a giraffe (can't pet him unless you pay to feed him :( ). Watch the feeding of enormous, yet gentle, Manatees....they are so awesome!! Enjoy a petting zoo....mainly only goats. The zoo usually has very entertaining monkey's and apes!
No food is allowed in the park itself....but just outside by the parking lot is an area with lots of picnic tables! Unless you want to pay out the nose for lunch at the couple of food courts inside the park, I would suggest you pack a cooler and go outside the park to eat! They'll let you back in....be sure to get your hand stamped or keep your ticket stub.
Oh!! Note to self.....if you DO buy a souvenir cup in the zoo, any station will refill it with ice water free....all day long! So it's definitely a good buy...especially since you're not allowed to bring food or drink in the park. Well, your baby's sippy cup is allowed, of course.
There's also a couple of areas where you can get wet....water sprays out of the ground and walls over in Wallaroo Station! At the entrance of the park there's a Manatee statue surrounded by smaller water geysers....lots of water fun to be had there! So take a change of clothes for your children!
Anyhoo....if you decide to go then it'll be a great time!
