“What a DUMP!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

DO NOT waste your time going to YBOR. This place is bad enough during the day and completely unsafe at night. The food is terrible, there are very strange shops with drug addicts on almost every corner. Most of the nicer places closed years ago and to no surprise...none have reopened. If you have children....and you love them.....do not bring them there..it is not safe!

“Like Bourbon Street”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Depending on what you feel like doing: during the daylight, Ybor can offer a historical insight into Tampa. Cobblestone roads & old buildings like the streets. The area as a whole, is somewhat ghetto. By night, Ybor is like Bourbon Street @ Mardi Gras. And because of the clubs, crime is always near. You pay $5 to park in any of the garages/homemade parking lot...and be prepared to walk. (Ladies, heels look nice, but aren't so comfy traipsing around Ybor.) 7th Avenue is a long street, filled with your choice of bars, clubs, pubs, & different shops. Any kind of music, whatever crowd/scenery you prefer...from a dive bar, to a gay club, to a tattoo shop. Admission prices vary, depending on the day & time you're going out...and where you're going. For instance, Club Prana is an older crowd...25 & up...no cover for ladies until 10pm Fri-Sun. Full Moon Saloon is a HUGE club for 18 & up, & they do 3 drinks for the price of 1 on Friday nights, on select alcohol. The dive bar may offer $1 draft beers for hospitality workers on Sundays...it all depends. POLICE are everywhere & don't play about drinking & driving, so be careful about that. But if you come to Tampa, you have to do it @least once, to experience it...it really is an experience all in & of itself.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

This is an interesting area very close to the cruise ship port in Tampa. The area was the center of cigar making in the country at the end of the 19th century and was home for many Cuban people. The visitor center has a short video, which we enjoyed. We took the walk thru the center of Ybor City, had lunch at the Columbia, a wonderful restaurant and then toured the History Center. There is plenty of inexpensive shopping and restaurants.

“Don't waste your time!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

Ybor city is in the middle of a very bad looking neighborhood. We just did a drive through the city. It was pretty much deserted so we didn't park and walk around. It looked there were a few bars that open at night but not much else!

“Quite interesting. Check it out at least once.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Ybor City is very unique. I enjoyed walking around and looking at the architecture. It is very reminescent of an old, Cuban neighborhood. There is a lot of history to learn about, and you can watch cigars being rolled by hand everywhere. A must-do is to eat while you're there. I went to the Green Iguana and had a classic cuban sandwich-very good!
