The aquarium is relatively small with emphasis on local aquatic populations. There is nothing really extraordinary to see here, nothing that has not been done better in other larger aquariums. A sea dragon exhibit was quite nice and some of the large viewing areas were good for photographs.
Outside there is a water playground for little kids which we did not try but seemed to be popular. The food court was extremely crowded and it took about a half hour to get a hot dog and sandwich. As it was, we were lucky to come before the place got really busy. Inexplicably, orders are taken in one line. Then you go over to another line and hand them the receipt and they get the stuff for your order. The process seemed to move at a crawl. I could only guess that the management have never visited a McDonald's or Burger King to see how quickly fast food can be prepared.
What must have been a really nice view of Tampa bay is blocked by a large 'victory ship' parked next to the aquarium and charging separate admission.
All in all, I doubt I would return to the aquarium. While the aquarium is well laid out with good presentation of information, there really is not that much there and the crowds are horrible and very aggressive. Try to walk through on a busy weekend without someone slamming a stroller into you. My wife and I enjoy aquariums but this one is on the low end of the list.
