“Expected only the best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

Just stayed here the night after an FSU home football game as we celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary. I'll start by saying the staff is very friendly and very attentive and the place was spotless. That was somewhat unexpected given they had just had an incredibly busy weekend.

But....different floors have different "scent themes". They don't mention this on the web site, so if you don't care for artificial citrus or vanilla aromas wafting through the corridors, this place isn't for you. Fortunately, the smell didn't permeate the rooms.

The decor is very modern and hip. There are no walls to the bathroom, just sliding frosted glass doors. And for a hotel of this caliber, I couldn't believe how incredibly cheap the toilet paper was. This coupled with sheets that were too small and kept coming off the mattress throughout the night nearly made me nearly give this place an average rating.

But the spectacular views, happy hour prices and excellent service at Level 8 Lounge make this a fun place to stay for a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: Be sure to call the hotel and arrange to get a room in a corridor where you can handle the "sce...

This was a nice change of pace from my usual courtyard by marriott. The room was very nice. The walls were somewhat thin. The fee breakfast was really nice, thou service was a little slow. Others in my group who had been there before thought the holt had gone down in quality a little, but I was happy.

Hotel service was great and rooms were designed well. They are a bit on the modern/trendy side and not huge by any means but they do a great job with the space. Bar on the roof top attracts a huge crowd on Little Black Dress night and definitely worth a visit.

Came in and booked a suite for a wedding. Dull to not enough lighting in rooms bashed in and untainted walls, holes in walls under sink, bar area dirty in counters stones in showers missing, dull and old furniture lobby bathroom had cobwebs in stalls. Glad it sold. Hope new owners do a total renovation.

We only live about an hour away from Tallahassee but make it it a point to stay at Duval when we are in town for a date night. Love the unique rooms with the glass bathrooms. Best showers!!! Love having Level 8 and Shulas right in the hotel. Great service. Amazing hotel!!

Room Tip: Ask for the red floor. Top floor is near the bar and may get loud on the weekends.

This hotel is located right in downtown Tallahassee. It's an old building renovated in the last few years. The guest rooms are rather small and not very comfortable. The bathroom is not very separate, with just a sliding glass door to close it off. The glass sink doesn't have much space for makeup, etc. nor does the small shelf above it. The floor in the shower stall is pebbles and very odd to stand on. The lighting is terrible in the room - no way to work at the desk with enough light or put on makeup in the bathroom. The only window is very high and small and impossible to see out of. The front desk staff was very friendly. The restaurant food was good but the service was much too slow for tired business travelers who just wanted to get back to our rooms.

The Hotel Duval is a Tallahassee Landmark, located blocks from the Capitol Hill in "Downtown" Tallahassee. I have stayed at the Duval before, when it had converted from the original Duval to a Radisson. The Radisson had made upgrades to the hotel, but the Duval took it up a notch. This hotel has been majorly renovated from its predecessors with Marble floors, River Rock Showers, Great Art and fine furnishings, not just in the rooms, but throughout the lobby and common areas as well, which includes a wonderful Shula's 347 Steakhouse. Rooms have all new bathrooms with glass sinks and showers. I stayed at this hotel shortly after it had converted last time, I had a few problems with the hotel, but it appears all those problems have been addressed. The rooms are tastefully decorated with a Scandanavian feel. The room I stayed in was a king room equipped with a Flat Screen TV, Ipod Dock, Speaker Phone and even a PC for your use, with a touch screen counsel. This room is also equipped with nice work area and small fridges are all standard. Parking is valet only, which is good, because the prior tenant always had parking situations. There is a (very popular) roof top bar, at the property, but although we were on a high floor did not hear anything over two days. The property has a very nice breakfast nook/coffee shop combo as well as the previously mentioned steakhouse. The staff makes great efforts to make you feel welcome. Without any doubt, among Tally Hotels, this is one of the best. My wife loved the hotel, especially the shower. For you Marriott Elites, this hotel has no conceirge, but they do give you a coupon for breakfast.

Room Tip: Corner Rooms, are where it is at.
