“1865 Battle to Save Florida's Capitol”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

Yep I'm a Southerner and a native Floridian (5th generation) so I'm a wee bit proud. But though Florida's involvement in the War Between the States was primarily providing men, salt and cattle there were several battles of significance with Natural Bridge being the one that stopped Federal 1865 attempt to take the last capitol east of the Mississippi River. What's unique about the site is the "natural limestone bridge" across the St Marks River to make an accessible crossing for Federal troops . There is a beautiful monument, some breast works, battle plan maps. And picnic area. No facilities but a great place to visit in the Spring or Fall. Piney woods Florida gets hot and muggy in the summer. Work an hour visit and walk around.

“A Historic Site That Should Be Better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

It's an important historic site, but sadly it's not much more than just a monument. I'm sure the time to go would be during the battle reenactment, but probably not any other time unless you may have had a ancestor involved in the battle. It would be nice to see more there- a trail or small museum or something that would make the $3 fee worth it.

“Not much there”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

I only saw a sign and a granite monument. Unless you had kin who had fought at that site, I'm not sure that that it's worth visiting.

“Where's the Bridge?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

I have been spoiled by the natural bridges of the west that I was expecting to see some sort of visible natural bridge/Arch. Instead this is where the river flows underground for a ways. While it is a bit scenic and seemed like a great fishing spot as there were several people with poles in the water. There is obviously some civil war history here as well, but I was left just a bit underwhelmed. If I was close by, I might check it out, our enjoy lunch here, but I wouldn't drive to far unless I was a civil war buff.

“Interesting historic site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Large park to visit as well as the monument across the street. We just went and looked around, read the monuments and left. It was interesting.
