The museum of Florida History is located just west of the Florida Supreme Court building and one block away from the Capital Complex. A parking garage is located right next door. Parking is free as well as admission into the museum!
Even though I have visited this museum numerous times in the past, this was the first time I was able to persuade family members to accompany me. There have been major renovations and additions to the previous displays that help to make a visitors experience even more enjoyable than before. As you walk through the museum, you start by seeing Florida during prehistoric times and eventually make it to the period just after WWII...displays on Native American cultures, the Age of Exploration, Shipwrecks, the Civil War, Agriculture, Tourism/Travel are just some of the topics you can learn about during your journey through time. Obviously, there are many more topics that could be included...hopefully there will be more to come in the near future. Even so, this is a great place to get a taste of Florida's unique history the next time you visit Tallahassee. There is a small gift shop and cafe...I believe the cafe is normally closed on the weekends however.
