I visited Silver Springs park in Silver Springs, Florida for the first time over 20 years ago, as a child. This is the park where Johnny Weissmuller filmed Tarzan movies, where James Bond swam in underwater scenes, where old TV shows like Sea Hunt were filmed, and many other movies and TV shows. But this less known Florida attraction also has some of the most beautiful scenery and wildlife that Florida has to offer. It had a lot to offer a person, especially on their first visit to Florida.
I recently returned to Florida's Silver Springs in June 2005, and it has even more to offer. Silver Springs has new owners, and with it - new attractions. The Jungle Cruise boat ride is in the same place, but the boats have been replaced by glass bottom boats and renamed the Fort King River cruise, along with the added Lost River Voyage with the same glass bottom boats, and the classic Glass Bottom Boat tour with the old, familiar design. There are still the gator and snake shows, along with a creature show with spiders, bats, and others. And there are lots of alligators to see! They also have added: a Jeep Safari ride, a Lighthouse ride with a view from above the park, a bear exhibit featuring the huge Alaskan Kodiak bears, a Florida Panther exhibit, feed the girafffes, and a kids playground. The only thing missing that I can remember is the old car museum and deer park. But I like the new stuff better.
If you have not been to Florida's Silver Springs, I highly suggest giving them a visit the next time you are in Florida. It is only a short drive north of Orlando, and has a lot to do, but with a less hectic pace from the Orlando theme parks. You will enjoy it.
If you need more information, please look up their web site at Silversprings.
