“Loved the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2007

We stayed at the Siesta Key Bungalows in the Tortuga bungalow over the Holidays and it was great! Very romantic setting, good for couples. They say it has a great view on Heron Lagoon at that's true. Nive caged porch, nice living room and bedroom (it's like on the pictures on their website). Kitchen needs some upgrade. Very clean bungalow. Pool was really heated, so you could use it, although small. Beautiful little garden and quiet location. Siesta Key public beach is about a 5 minutes drive and it's the best beach I've ever seen. I've read comments where they complain about ants and other insects, we didn't have any problems since we adjusted to the Florida rules (never leave any food outside). Seems that the Tortuga and the Ringling bungalows are the best in terms of view and setting. On-site manager fixed any of the minor problems that we had immediately (safe was closed, water heater didn't work). Only downside: they don't answer your emails, you got to call them.

If you are looking for a resort experience don't stay here - if you can appreciate retro chic, this is the place to stay! Older block building motel has been totally redone! We stayed in the Hibiscus and it was clean, spacious enough for 2 adults and a child and cool in a retro way. The courtyard has a fountain and brick walkways thru all types of vegetation. It's like being in a private estate. The heated pool was a huge bonus, couldn't get our daughter out of it. I particulary liked the dock on the river, would have used the canoe if we had more time. The sheets were the softest I'd ever slept on and the owner/manager was exceptionally personable. I'll definitely stay there again if I get the chance.

I just returned from a two night stay in the Ringling. Last August I stayed for four nights in the Tortuga... These are the two nicest units, closest to the water. The courtyard, grounds, beds, and linens are lovely. Everything else is lacking and is not adequate for the price.

The Ringling is in poor condition compared to the Tortuga and for almost $200/night this is inexcusable. The cabinets in the kitchen are clearly poor quality and are falling apart-- same in the bathroom. The shower and shower-stall are shameful. The floor slopes across the entire unit and the windows are unopenable.
The appliances are old, the fridge was rusty.

I got up for a glass of water at 1am and there was a huge roach on the kitchen table (though we'd not eaten or left any food out).

When I made my reservation I indicated it was crucial to have internet access (as it had worked great in August). Well, upon checkin I learned that the internet access was down and would not be repaired until 3 days after my departure-- quite problematic for a professional. I inquired about wifi access in town and wasnt given much help (for future reference, Panera has free internet and its just over the bridge).

I wouldnt stay here again, as its just not worth the price without some major renovations and upgrades.

If you do go, rent a bike from Siesta Sports Rentals - 6551 Midnight Pass Rd http://www.siestasportsrentals.com/ as there isnt much to do on the property and the beach access is too far to walk. Their bikes are in good condition and affordable-- and they will drop off or pickup for free.

We were looking for a quiet place to take a brief break before winter set in, that was convenient for us to get to with a minimum of hassle - and we found on Siesta Key Bungalows on the web. We had a great time - it was the perfect place for a brief break. Quiet, peaceful, comfortable, and very relaxing. There are just enough local shops for anything you might need, and some nice restaurants in the area (Galileo Ristorante on Stickney Point Rd just near the bridge onto the key is excellent, and Javier's is also good). Bottom line ....... don't come here if you want to party all night long, or if you are looking for the generic, all plastic, "resort experience". But DO come here if you want a laid-back, comfortable, and very relaxing time.

Can't understand all the raves...just don't see why.

Cottages are old, draws & closet doors don't close properly,
dirty floors, annoying noisy plumbing, bugs climbing on walls.
There was less than half a roll of toilet paper & no refills or
any other paper products anywhere to be found. The bed felt
like there were crumbs left over from the last guest...I hope
that's what it was, cause it was itchy.

We opened the fridge, only to find leftover cake, have no idea how long it's been there...I'm sure that it is still there. The drapes were these little pieces of slight fabric that once you get through untying them to allow for privacy(which will take a while cause there were allot of them) then you have to deal with the light coming through them all night long from the window above your bed. Don't believe words like "boutique accommodations" or "renovated."

The overall exterior of the place is cute, the concept is great, but
for $166 per night, this could have been exactly as written in their
website, if only they put in a little effort to update & upkeep. Simple improvements could make this place so adorable, but $89 per night is the most that should be charged for current, "as is" conditions.

The gardens & lagoon are quite tranquil, that much is true.

We have stayed at Siesta Key Bungalows many times, love the landscaping, love the lagoon view, loved the quaint pool, fluffy mattresses and just about everything. We almost always catch a fish or two, and we love siesta key beach as well. The staff is pleasant and accommodating and the few problems we have encountered during our stay have always been solved quickly and with a good attitude.

We arrived two hours before check in. The television, A/C, and ceiling fan were already on...waiting for us...We stayed in the Sunset bungalow. The mattress on the hide a bed was lumpy, but the mattress in the bedroom was heaven. We found ants in the bathroom on our last night there, and something dined on the bananas left on the kitchen counter. But other than that, we enjoyed our stay enough to go back next summer. The bungalows are only five minutes away from Siesta Key Beach, and most of the week we had the pool to ourselves. Pool was always clean and the water was great. We miss Siesta Key already!
