“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

We stayed here for two nights and everything was great. The room had a small kitchen and there were gas grills outside. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and modern with a leather sofa and flat screen tv. The best part is that it has private beach access, you can also rent chairs and umbrellas (you can also check chairs out at the resort but they aren't as comfortable as the ones you can rent down at the shore).

The staff was very helpful and friendly. The grill was out of gas but a staff member came very quickly to replace it for us. Looking forward to staying there again the next time I am in the area. The restaurant recommendations from the staff were great and they seemed happy to help us.

Our family stayed at Tropical Shores Beach Resort at the end of June. When I made the reservation, I reserved a room at Tropical Shores but we were pleasantly surprised when we were upgraded to a destination suite in the Sara Sea resort. After spending 4 days in Orlando this trip to Siesta Key was the R&R we were looking for. Coming in days after TS Debby, we didn't know what to expect as far as left over water. We were even told that our day of arrival would be filled with showers. However, the day was sun and sand and a bunch of "elves" cleaning around the resort to remove the debris and bring back the beauty. If you are expecting a large resort with a good crowd, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for water sports, a non-crowded beach and a sunset fit for a magazine then you will find it here. This is a quiet beautiful tropical getaway that worked for us in every way! From the pool being steps away to the short walk to the beach, we found a piece of paradise. The ocean was still rattled by the storm on the first day but the days following were gentle waves, sun and a breeze to make our time at the beach the best. We have a large glass container displaying our beautiful shells that we found. Our room was a destination suite. With 2 boys, they were able to stay on the sleeper sofa and have their own TV to watch. The separate bedroom was cozy and comfortable and the bathroom was perfect. Again, you won't have too much dancing room but you will have a beautiful room with all of the amenities that you need. On the way home, my husband said this was definitely the BEST vacation we have ever had!! I just look forward to returning!

Room Tip: Sara Sea is definitely closer to the beach but don't rule out the other two resorts.

Thank you so much for your great review! What great feedback… especially coming in just days after the storm at the end of June! We love that you described your room as “beautiful with all the amenities that you need!” But the fact that your husband said “It was the best vacation he had ever had...” is the best compliment a resort could receive! Thanks again for recommending us and we look forward to seeing you in the future!

Stayed here a few days and returned the following week. Staff was accommodating and the rooms were updated and clean. We'll be back for more relaxation.

In the past I loved coming to Tropical Shores Beach Resort (have stayed her at least 4 or 5 times over the years), as always nice and quiet, charming, and relaxing, loved grilling out under the shaded area at night and lounging outside to read a book. (same time of the year as before). This past visit was not as rewarding and totally different.
I stayed in the new section Sara Sea. Did not care for this area, at all. No shade or character, no private area to sit. Only a skinny porch with 2 uncomfortable chairs out front lined up next to one another overlooking a hot sunny parking lot. So if someone else was outside, they would just be there staring at you. Never could get to the grill as always crowded with people. Beach very crowded as well. Room was NOT laid out well. Bed was so close to the chest of drawers you could not stand in front of it. You had to stand to the left or right to open the drawer. The bathroom was so small and no place to sit anything. Shower only, no tub.

The refrigerator took two days to cool as was turned up. The stove took over an hour to cook at pizza on 450 (at home can cook same pizza at 250 in less than 10 minutes. The closet was so small and had a laptop safe about mid- way down, so no place to hang long sundress. My laptop would not even fit in it as too small. I am a designer, so would never have laid out furniture in this fashion. The sofa crowds the room and needs to be removed. The room had no circulation, so requested a fan (which the maintenance guy was great..very friendly, responsive, and brought a nice fan right away and even gave me a lift with my beach chair from the beach one day on golf cart).
When checking in- very crowded - small office and long line (again not best use of space). I booked a special internet promo rate of around $100 a night, which was OK for what I received; however, would not have been so pleased if it had been $399 night which is what they go for sometimes. I preferred the older section. Doubt I will stay there again, as a shame as enjoyed it in the past. Lots of kids playing outside on the porches, and the room next door had windows open practicing with her musical instrument all day.
Good points: Good WiFi signal, great location – near downtown village area, and brought my bike so nice riding down Midnight Pass road, and as always enjoyed Ophelias. If you are looking for quiet and relaxing, this is not the place. It has lost it character.

Room Tip: do not stay in sara sea area - would go with the older section

This resort was everything we needed for a perfect stay in Siesta Key!! We stayed at the Tropical Sun in a Sandpiper King room. Very clean and cute with just a short walk to the beautiful Crescent Beach. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Captain Curt's and The Fish Market across the street is an added bonus. Highly recommended for families with children!

First, I'll point out the positives. It was clean and it was a good location. There is no carpeting which is good if you have allergies like I do. The rooms in the picture though are very misleading. We were supposedly in a suite and it looked like they were a nice size when you see them on the internet, but they were extremely small. We had to pull out the sofa bed and it blocked the door and you had to move the table to get the bed out. I also don't like their cancellation policy. They take 10% if you cancel at all. In season I think it is even worse. We ended up leaving early because we were uncomfortable in the room, but of course with the cancel policy we did not get our money back for not staying the last night. They also charge a resort fee - not sure what that is for - but honestly this is no resort.

We appreciate all the feedback that we receive and thank our guests for taking the time to write in and let us know how we are doing! This review gives us the opportunity to encourage our guests to call us directly when making reservations. The reservation terms described in this review are not our hotel policies. Our cancellation policy is just 25.00 from May-January with a 72 hour cancellation notice. We only require a one night room and tax deposit regardless of length of stay. We strive to have the most flexible cancellation policies on the island. When reservations are made through third parties (not direct with the hotel) fees may be incurred or policies may vary. We alwasys encourage our guests to call us directly and will match all rates for the resort online at the time of making reservations. We can also help select room types that match your individual needs. We take all of our photos ourselves, photos are extremly accurate to what is being reserved. it's important if making reservations without our assistance to review our web site and photo galleries to review room type at the time of making reservations. We are very pleased to hear that our guets found their accommodations to be clean ( so important!) but wish we had an opportunity to have offered more personal service in their reservation process so a better experience was had.

Our family enjoyed our weekend stay at Tropical Shores while vacationing in Siesta Key. The location of the resort among Sara Sea Circle felt quaint and private, which was perfect for kids. We enjoyed the short stroll to Crescent Beach behind the resort & had a fantastic time snorkeling right there at Points of Rock.

Our room was a deluxe efficiency with (2) double beds & pull out sofa in loving room. The space was sufficient for our family of four. The room was clean and tastefully decorated in a tropical theme. We made full use of the kitchenette & loved having a refrigerator for drinks, snack etc during our stay.

When returning to Siesta Key in future, we will definitely look into staying here again. While we explored popular Siesta Beach,The Village, and surrounding areas...our family preferred the less crowed Crescent Beach in which this resort was situated on.
