Upon arriving at the front desk, I was greeted by 2 women that were not very friendly. We went to our condo and the front door knob was very loose and was hard to lock or un-luck. We entered the condo and started looking around. The Master Bath had terrible mildew, mold and soap scum and the grout was black in numerous places. The floors were filthy. The ceiling of the bathroom had a black unknown substance on it above the sink. We pulled down the sheets and there were black hairs across the sheets. YUK. We noticed there weren’t any clean sheets for the sofa bed. I went down to ask about the sheets and complain about the issues and the woman looked right through me and said the unit had been cleaned. I asked for sheets and she said they didn’t supply sheets, even though the letter we received stated sheets would be provided. I told her this was unacceptable and she pointed out on the floor behind me and told me there were sheets in a box behind me. I said "So this is how this works??" and she came out from behind the front desk and bent over and picked a stack of sheets and handed them to me. No one came to clean the bathroom or bedroom.
We noticed the icemaker was broken. The kids turned on the 25" TV in the family room and it started making a loud buzzing sound. I called the front desk and reported the TV and the Icemaker were not working. A repair man came to fix the TV. He said it was bad and replaced it with a 15" TV which was so outdated it didn’t have RCA jacks to hook up the DVD player. He left the TV in our apartment on the floor. I moved it into our Master Closet.
Day 3 A different repair man came to fix the Icemaker. There wasn’t a vault in the room so we couldn’t leave. We were at their mercy. He was there about 1 1/2 hours then left. We thought he was finished. Twenty minutes later he returned but he didn’t knock. When he was finally finished he left parts on the counter and didn’t push the Fridge back into its space all the way. I then went to the front desk to ask for a locksmith. They told me it would be tomorrow before a locksmith could come. I then went upstairs to speak with Management. I met with a gentleman in a hallway of the office. I told him my story. He then introduced me to a woman behind a desk and I told her my story. She then walked me down the hall to meet with the General Manager. I told him about all of the problems we had and invited him to come to our room to see for himself. He came in and walked around and said he would get his people on the lock. He then asked me if I wanted to leave and get a full refund. I said my wife and I didn’t want to leave but thought a refund of 1/3 of our total cost for the week would be fair. He then went on to say he was sorry about the problems and said he would get back to me later in the day. He then told me that the Prime Minister of Canada stayed there a few weeks before and that he had to accompany the Canadian Secret Service into the room and he was pretty embarrassed with the condition of the condo. A few hours later a locksmith arrived and once again I was stuck in the condo until she left.
The GM and I met later that afternoon and stated they could move us to a different unit but they wouldn’t refund any money. He said he investigated and had I reported the problems on the first day something could have been done. I explained to him that we didnt want to pack everthing up, including a pantry and fridge full of food and move to the next building away from our friends. I felt like we had been inconvienenced enough and I was pretty disappointed with that news. The problems happened over days.
But the Icemaker, Door Knob, TV, Nasty Bathroom, Dirty sheets, No Sheets were all reported as soon as discovered.
The Beach was great, Pool was clean, Siesta Key was great, Palm Bay Club was a comedy of errors. I have stayed in dives in the Caribbean that were friendlier, cleaner and better managed.
There was one maintenance worker that was a good guy and even offered to loan me a dollar when the dryer ended saving me a trip to go get a laundry credit. Thanks again.
My question is why would the GM share a story of about how embarrassed he was with the condition of one of his condos for the Prime Minister of Canada with me and then turnaround and do nothing for us?? About 8 families were there with us and none of their rooms were remotely like ours and yes they all visited and saw it first hand. Its sad I should have read Trip Advisor before booking that place. I usually do. Good luck to any one who is planning a stay there.
