“Nice Local, Relaxing Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2014

Turtles is a hangout for locals with a beachy feel and indoor or patio dining. Menu items offer great American fare from salads, burgers, chickens fingers, even grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids. The view of the bay from the patio is very nice for this area. The patio is somewhat crowded with tables very close together. During peak times, the service has always seemed slow on drink refills. During the day the inside restaurant area is mostly empty. However, this inside area has a large bar perfect for a late night drink.

Turtles is almost at the end of Siesta Key and far from the fun night life in the village area of Siesta Key. Turtles is close to the many condos in the area and therefore convenient with very good menu items. Turtles is clean, comfortable and the staff, although a little slow at times, is very friendly. Our local friends like to take us here with their kids, who don't have any difficulty finding something they like on the menu.

“Great food, lovely view, let down by service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

Had a lovely meal here tonight.
Could not fault any of the tastes and flavours.
The stuffed shrimp were delicious as were the coconut shrimp.
Wife enjoyed her salmon and the kids enjoyed their food.
The bread rolls were warm, and the salads crsip and fresh.

I feel it was let down by poor service. We were not told about any specials, and our waiting person was not visible for long periods, so much so that when I wanted to order a drink to go with my food I had to ask a waitress who was busy with another table. In fact we only knew about the starters as we heard her telling her table about them!
We ordered a side of asparagus each, this came to the table as I was on my last couple of mouthfuls so was far too late (apparently the chef was only cooking one side so we had to wait until two were ready).

And the final thing that disappointed me was the cream/half and half served with the coffee. I would have thought that a better class restaurant such as this, rather than the standard cafes, would have served up a jug of fresh milk/creamer rather than the cartons that you find in cafes, airports etc.

So a lovely meal, beautiful setting, but let down by things that can be improved with very little effort. Just edged 4 stars, nearly 3.

“Peaceful Waterfront Dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

We tried Turtle's because it was so close to our condo on Turtle Beach. This is a really pretty restaurant. The front entrance is nicely landscaped and welcoming. We had a great table outside on the covered portion of the waterfront deck and enjoyed the beautiful view, which included fireworks and a sudden downpour. The service was helpful and friendly. We weren't extremely hungry, so we ordered soup, appetizers and drinks (amazing Key Lime Pina Coladas!) and then ordered our entrees to go. I thought the to go order might be a problem because we ordered full meals (surf and turf and stuffed shrimp) not just sandwiches, but everything was neatly packaged and delicious when we ate it several hours later. This is a great place to linger over a few drinks or to enjoy a great meal. The prices are reasonable and both the view and the food are wonderful.

“Serving good food since 1986”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Turtles and nearby Ophelia's and Marina Jack's probably afford the best waterfront views of any restaurant in the Sarasota area. And they also have something else in common. Each of them offers good, affordable food and great service. Turtles, overlooking Little Sarasota Bay, is celebrating its 29th anniversary. It provides an expansive, imaginative, complete lunch and dinner menus that include fresh Florida seafood, soft shell crabs, filet mignon and prime rib. And don't forget Sunday brunch from 10 to 3, a feature that most other restaurants don't offer. Start with the New England clam chowder and 1905 salad, fresh chopped romaine lettuce with green olives, ham and Swiss cheese and homemade dressing. The dinner specialities are highlighted by Alaskan sockeye salmon, macadamia crusted Mahi-Mahi (my wife can't resist it), stuffed shrimp, petite filet mignon with baked stuffed shrimp, red King crab leg clusters and Maine lobster tail and Georges Bank sea scallops. Turtles does wonderful things with salmon, grouper, Mahi Mahi, haddock and shrimp. With so many quality restaurants in the Sarasota area, it is good to see how competitive they are, each trying to gain a step ahead of the others. That's a winning proposition for customers.
