“Historic with Charming Character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

We look forward to a fall trip to Sebring to stay at the Kenilworth Lodge every year. If you are used to staying in cookie-cutter national chain hotels when you're in Sebring, consider staying at an historic building filled with charming character. The Lodge has rooms in the main building and also bungalows alongside the large pool and stand alone little cottages, each with its own screened in porch. A complimentary breakfast is offered in the spacious lobby. Peggy is friendly and efficient at the desk. She helped us upgrade our Groupon deal from a Lodge room to a cottage on the back grounds near the pool. Make time to spend a few hours at the Highland Hammock State Park located nearby. The Palm Restaurant next door has good food at a fair price.

Room Tip: Check on the cottages near the pool

...but I kept looking over my shoulder for characters to appear from the movie The Shining. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast each morning was nicely done (that's the 3-star rating). But they really need someone with a huge bankroll to come in and totally restore the place. My room needed deep cleaning. Floor hadn't been vacuumed around the edges--bits of food in the corners of the room that a vacuum should have picked up. Paint chips falling off the windows. Phone didn't work. Bedside table had gummy crud on it. Musty/moldy smell. Pipes overhead in the room to deliver water to the shower, but the pipes must have pinhole leaks because you get a double shower---before you get in and while you are in the shower. It is really really old and charm just goes so far. It is certainly not the staff's fault that they are trying to keep this poor place presentable.

The Kenilworth Lodge is about 100 years old, located in Sebring on Lakeview Drive across from the lake. It has a large lobby, breakfast is included in the room price, and the rates are reasonable. However, it is showing its age. The elevator is like a small box and it moves very slowly with a lot of creaking noises. I used it once and after that walked up and down the stairs to my third floor room. The room was clean, there was adequate hot water in the shower, and the television worked. There is a step up into the bathroom, which is something to remember if nature calls in the middle of the night. The lobby breakfast was good and included a make your own waffle setup. The staff were pleasant. Although the hotel doesn't operate a restaurant, there is a diner called the Palm Diner located right around the corner in back of the property, which was good.

Room Tip: Try to get a low floor because believe me, you won't want to use the elevator.

Interesting, historical hotel...not a whole lot else. The people here are VERY friendly and helpful, but for your money go somewhere else. Our suite had a bathroom in between the bedroom and sitting room and none of the rooms were very nice....definitely lacking updates. Water temperature fluctuates when showering every time we used it. There was almost a two inch gap between our door and the hallway floor. Not our kind of place.

When we arrived at Kenilworth Lodge, we knew right away that this hotel had a history. It sits in a small town of Sebring, Florida. Walking distance from downtown, if you feel like walking. its across the street from Lake Jackson. Not far from good restaurants and shopping. It has a very hometown feeling to it. The people are very friendly, especially the staff of Kenilworth Lodge namely; Peggy, and Bob. Bob is the owner & he showed us around. He took us to check out some cabins and other accommodations they have, and he also told us a little bit of the hotel's history. The hotel has been there since the early 1900's. the rooms are old style, but homey. It even has the original door knob, very antique looking. The only disappointment we had was the bed was two twin beds push together with a king size mattress top, low water pressure in the shower, and we were supposed to have a lake view but our windows were blocked by huge tree. But the hotel itself made up for the lack of view or other disappointments we had. This hotel has everything that your family could enjoy together. You didn't even have to leave the room to have fun. They have a good size swimming pool, games like..pool table, ping pong, chest & board games. They have tons of seating in the lobby area where you can relax, warm next to the huge fireplace, or read a book from their own library. They also have 2 multi-functional ballrooms for special events. Kenilworth is the place to go if you want to spend time, relax and bond with your family. Very friendly staff and local people. We're definitely coming back. Oh yeah, book early because they're always full.

I bring a group of quilters four times a year to relax, sew and enjoy the slower pace of the hotel. The staff is the friendliest one I have encountered and are always willing to go the second mile to please their guests. Sure, the rooms are quirky, but the beds are new and comfy and the fixtures work, so we were happy. The breakfast is better than some chain hotels, with waffle makers and 24 hour fresh coffee, fruit, cereals, yogurt, eggs, pastries and juices.
Some of my quilters use the cottages and have found them very quaint and comfortable. The pool is huge and very clean, with beautiful landscaping and a large brick patio.
The men who carry in all our machines and supplies are friendly and accommodating.
I just love this hotel and will continue to bring groups here quarterly.

Our family stayed at the Kenilworth during the Heartland Triathlon weekend June 15th and 16th. We stay there every year as it has a welcoming staff, beautiful historical hotel, large pool, comfortable rooms. We have stayed in a room, Presidential suite and now our favorite which is the jacuzzi suite.
