“Holiday Inn Lido, Sarasota Florida”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2014

Just spent three days at this hotel during a family reunion. Hotel was OK but way overpriced. Cost us $517.00 for two nights. Hotel is showing it's age but they are remodeling it. We had Gulf view room that did have a great view.

Stayed here for one night while visiting family in an other part of Florida. I've been to Sarasota several times, but never experiensed it like this.

This is a great hotel to stay at if you don't want to or can't spend a fortune at a hotel. It's beautifully located at Lido beach with walking distans to charming S:t Armand's Circle.

Read some reviews indicating that it's old and not clean. Yes - it's not built yesterday, but the don't state they are. The bathroom isn't dirty, but old. The rooms are quite spacious and air condition, curtains and everything works as it should. They have simple plastic chairs and tables at the balcony, but they will do fine for a drink in the sunset, I promise you. It's a good hotel that gives you what you pay for.

The view from the balcony, facing the beach, is absolutley stunning! And we were on the third floor (so you don't need a high level room). The other hotels at any of the beaches will cost you at least twice as much but won't give twice the comfort and absolutley not a better view.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra to get a room with sea view. It's so beautiful!

Spent four nights at this establishment. The beach makes it worth staying here, but the guest services could largely be improved. Clean room with slow shower drain. Missed change of linens request and sub par laundry accommodations. Front desk interactions were average to above average. That being said, we would probably stay here again just for the beach location unless traveling south to Siesta Key.

My family of four spent several days here in May using rewards points. We had no problem getting a gulf view room on the fourth floor. The location of this property could not be better: the beach is the best non-Hawaiian beach I've been to, hands down. (We loved Siesta Key also, a 20 minute drive from this hotel.) St. Armand's is a couple blocks away, and it's a shopper's paradise of eclectic stores, restaurants, and cafés. So fun to stroll around in the evenings after a day in the sun.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The 7th floor restaurant was fine, not great, but did have a gorgeous view; and for guests of the hotel kids eat free. The room was fine for what we needed, which was time on the beach! The decor looked recently updated but the tub drained slowly and the bathroom sink looked pretty aged. Cleaning staff did a good job except when we left the "please change linens" sign on the bed and the linens were not changed. Linens were promptly changed after we notified the front desk. The pool was clean and fairly large. The shallow end was 4.5 feet, which was over my 8 year old's head. I have good little swimmers but a place to stand up in the pool would have been nice. They loved it and didn't complain about the depth.

The beauty of this beach and the breathtaking sunsets cannot be overstated! This is not luxury accommodation, but we had an awesome vacation and the price was right! We would definitely stay here again and hope to next year.

The location is undeniably great - overlooking Lido beach on St Armands key. A short walk to lots of shops and restaurants - and quiet.
The hotel is being remodelled - and we didn't find that a problem - there were signs everywhere - and whilst we were there - no noise or disruption. My main gripe is that they should have begun remodelling years ago! The room we had (with balcony overlooking the beach) - was very very dated - the bathroom especially a relic from the 70's or 80's.
The staff were very friendly - but honestly i would have expected to pay no more than a hundred dollars a night for a hotel in this state of repair. I hope the refurb is comprehensive - and they replace the old, dirty cracked and chipped bits of each room - update the dusty noisy through the wall a/c and get rid of the musty smell that pervades the building.
If they do - then i would give it another try.

My son & his girlfriend surprised my mom and I with a Mother's Day stay at the beach. After reading some reviews of the hotel, I was apprehensive. Since my son booked the hotel, I decided no matter what, I would enjoy his generous gift. When we opened the door to room 310, the anxiety quickly fell away. The room was modern, clean, and fresh. (I think it was freshly renovated.) Nothing fancy, but I don't need fancy. We had a GORGEOUS view of the gulf from our spacious balcony. (Yay!!) And a coffeemaker and small refrigerator was the crowning glory. The only small complaint I had about the room is that the bathroom was a bit outdated and worn, but not terrible.

Note: The hotel is NOT right on the beach. It is across a busy 4 lane road from the beach. My mom has Parkinson's, so it's slow going for her with a walker. My son was under the impression that the hotel was directly on the beach, which would make an easier trip for my mom. Not so.

Another disappointment was the service in the restaurant. We received free breakfast with our room, and the clerk at check in told us that breakfast would be served until 11:00am. We got to the restaurant at 9:45 on Mother's Day morning, and we were the last people that they seated because "they had to prepare for the Mother's Day Brunch." That would have been fine, but we were told that breakfast was until 11:00, and the manager/supervisor at the restaurant was not very friendly or courteous as he turned people away. We felt rushed through breakfast, and the manager/supervisor was literally rearranging the dining room around us as we were eating. There was also a female server (middle aged woman with blonde hair) who was extremely rude to the customers at the table next to us. Several times I watched her roll her eyes as she walked away from the table. This woman should find a different line of work, since she obviously isn't happy with her current job. And finally, at the buffet, after looking through at least 10 plates, we asked for a plate from the back, because every one on the buffet had dried, stuck-on food. It's a shame that the restaurant is managed so poorly, because the view from the restaurant is absolutely amazing, and the hotel seems to have good management in place.

Lido beach is absolutely gorgeous, but I think next time we visit, we will try a different hotel. While this one was nice, I don't think the huge price tag is justified.

Room Tip: Beach side has gorgeous views. I was in 310.

Just back from a 3 nighter at this Holiday Inn, with excellent weather thrown in. I've seen some reviews regarding remodeling of this hotel and some inconveniences some have complained about. I see signs throughout the hotel about the remodeling going on but i did not see nor hear any of it. The beer is cold at the pool bar and the cheeseburgers are excellent. They ain't cheap but if you want cheap drive a mile or two away into town itself and eat in a parking lot. Otherwise, i'll take a cold beer of coca-cola and the cheeseburger at the pool bar with the view and the Gulf breeze in my face.
