“Great price with a fabulous view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

You can't beat the price especially with the gorgeous view of Lido Key beach. The hotel is in walking distance of St. Armands Circle, which is great. Hotel is clean, but rooms are nothing real special. They offer free beach chairs and toys....first come first serve. My hubby ordered room service one evening during a storm; however, received the wrong food. The hotel staff isn't real friendly either.

We are so very sorry that you did not find our staff friendly - we work hard to be a warm and welcoming team for all of our guests, and are usually very successful. Sorry about the bad weather.

We were there for the weekend following the 4th of July festivities, so were also in the perfect spot to get a great view of the boat races. The hotel is a bit older, but very clean and comfortable, and the view on our balcony overlooking the ocean could not be better!

Ideally located a short walk away from St Armand's, which provided a few nice hours of browsing quaint shops and people watching. Lots of great restaurants here too.

The best thing about our stay would have to be the service we experienced from the staff, especially Adam at the front desk, who gave us a lengthy insider's list of great restaurants in the area. They were so accommodating in every way, and made our stay so fun and enjoyable!

Room Tip: Gulf view is worth the extra cost

Sometimes staying at older hotels is not so bad even when there are plumbing issues etc. This hotel was very expensive (over $200) a night and severely needs a facelift in rooms and plumbing as tub stayed clogged all day after first shower and there was mold and water under linoleum in bathtub. Also the hair dryer didn't work.

What bothered me more than anything and the reason for this review is when all of this was brought to the attention of the front desk clerk she was condescending and rude to me about the problem. We are platinum elite members with IHG hotels and go out of our way to stay with this hotel chain and never have we been given such rude and poor customer sevice.

Because I never give reviews I must also say that the restaurant at the top of the hotel did serve a wonderful breakfast (free to myself, spouse and child) and Chuck who was our waiter, did a phenomenal job with his service. This was important as we called for room service the previous night at 5-7 minutes before they were supposed to close at 9pm and were denied service.

I wish that I would have read previous reviews on this hotel and stayed at the Hotel Indigo which is also in the IHG group.

Thank you for your very honest comments. First - there is no excuse on our part to deny you service from the dining room. We strive to say Yes to all our guests - and extend service that is above and beyond. We are very sorry that you did not experience that. Thank you for your compliments of Chuck - he is an asset to our team, and we will make sure he knows he made a difference in your stay.

Keep mind, I'm writing this at Sunrise with no coffee! Lol! Coffee is available in the lobby beginning at 7:00. For a hotel ~ it's very nice. Very clean and well kept for the price point. Staff has been great. I suppose I should have dug farther to learn it was across the street from the beach; this definitely affected my viewpoint. Also, we did not bring beach chairs or umbrellas since we were staying at a hotel "on the beach" ~~~ bring your own or be prepared to rent them. Last night I was looking for a quiet place to read, there isn't one (family was watching tv). Oh, and coffee is available in the rooms, but as an early riser, I didn't want to wake them.

We did have a gulf front balcony that we enjoyed. The buffet breakfast was ~$13 and standard buffet fare.

Overall, if you know what you're getting I can see where it's a decent value but I doubt I would stay here again. My daughter disagreed with me, tho, she was quite content. Probably a matter of expectations.

This hotel has a great location. It is decent, but not the best hotel to stay at in Sarasota. It was great to have a balcony, beach access across the street and a short walk to St Armand's Circle. The bar in the lobby is kind of a joke. The staff was very kind and helpful. It is an older hotel and needs an overall makeover. The staff did mention that they are converting the hotel to a "Resort". Does this mean they are going to start charging a "Resort" fee daily? If so, it is NOT a resort. If you want a "Resort" and fees, then stay at a Ritz-Carlton. As they say in real estate "location, location, location".

My husband and I were looking for a last minute place to stay at the beach for a couple of nights following a family visit in central Florida. A TA forum member suggested this hotel and it proved to be just what we wanted. We followed the advice of other reviewers and spent the extra for the ocean view and agree that it was worth it----the other side of the hotel looks over the parking lot and we would not have been pleased with the price of the room with that view. We loved getting up in the morning and having our coffee on our balcony while watching the waves, seagulls and occasional dolphins, and then again in the evening watching the sun slowly fade as the ocean darkened. The hotel is across the road from the beach, not directly on it, but on our level we had a great view, and the walk across the road to the beach was very easy.

Our room was very clean and attractive, the bed was comfortable, we were provided with extra towels, including beach towels, without asking, and my request to be on an upper floor away from the elevator was granted. We were on the 4th floor in an end room and except for a loud party at the pool one night, we did not have any issues with noise. The front desk staff was very pleasant and worked to allow us to check in early when we arrived before the regular time.

We enjoyed being able to park the car in the free lot and walk to Armand Circle to eat and browse without having to fight for parking places in that crowded area.

If we returned to Sarasota, I would not hesitate to stay at The Holiday Inn, Lido Beach, again.

Room Tip: Spend the extra for a balcony room facing the ocean, on the 4th floor to see above the road and tree...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We stayed 2 weeks in this hotel from June 22nd to July 5th of 2013, for a relaxing Family vacation. The location is awesome and the hotel has such great potential to become an amazing resort. Staff was very friendly, and I was greeted by the GM (Kym) when I arrived. Our room was not ready and it was well past the check-in time, but we didn't mind since Kym did apologize for the delay, we sat at the bar and had a few cold beers, while the kids made themselves at home, in the pool. Once the room was ready, we were happy and pleasantly surprise to see that the room (614) was bigger than expected as well as, to see an amazing view of the gulf/beach from the 6th floor. The room itself was not too clean because my 2 kids automatically spotted mentos, 2 pens and m&m's slightly below the skirt of the 2nd bed next to the sliding doors. No biggie, we cleaned that out ourselves since we didn't want the kids testing others folks candies lol. Overall, the room was of a good size,it had a fridge, safe and coffee machine and coffee was supplied with paper cups. There was also 2 queen beds and a table with 2 chairs for us to enjoy. There was enough drawer space for all 4 of us, to handle all our clothes... as well as a small open closet. Bathroom, again showed signs of a hurried cleaner, it still had the previous tenants soap scum on one of the wall, which my husband was more than happy to wash out for the kids. Obviously a quick cleaning job was done in this room to accommodate us.The bathroom does need an overhaul and shelving for families. The AC is noisy, and hopefully will be replaced in the future. On a Daily basis, we opted to make our own beds so housekeeping didn't need to worry, but we always had something missing, a set of towels, or coffee or cups. Most of the time we handled it directly with the housekeeping crew still on the floor, which were very helpful and friendly, if not, the Front desk agent was always very nice and quick to send up the missing items or hand it over. We did visit the restaurant for a buffet breakfast a few times, and the staff was great and breakfast was good... above average pricing. The American skillet, the waffles, omelets were all in the 9 to 11$ depending if you wanted bacon or not and the buffet (13$ which included coffee and juice as well as all the food you wanted) Children ate for free. Breakfast was yummy and the view with a coffee on hand was fabulous. St-Armand's circle is a 5 minute walk if you want to venture out for breakfast and pricing is slightly cheaper. Tons of shops. A must visit is the Mote Aquarium about 15mins away by car. The beach is across the hotel. Just be careful crossing the road, not all drivers slow or stop to let pedestrians cross. Beach sand, surprisingly doesn't burn under feet, and is of a fine white sand. Weather was great everyday 88 to 92 and water at 88. Lifeguards on beach. If you see dark clouds, don't think they will pass by....it thunders everyday for about 30mins :) I would easily return to this location and hotel.
