“Beautiful Beach Location - But A Few Setbacks”

Lido Beach Resort

We recently spent a week at the Lido Beach Resort and have some feedback - negative and positive. I had made the reservation over the phone and asked for an e-mail confirmation with detailed information about our stay but was only provided with the room rates for the week. We had booked over a month in advance.

I left it at that, being sure that I had booked a room with a balcony but found out upon check-in that the room not only did not have a balcony, but the view from the window was of a roof - totally blocking any sight of the sky, let alone the ocean. I called down right away and was told we could switch rooms the next day to an ocean view balcony room - but at a greatly increased rate. (from $339/night weekdays to $404/night and from $379/night weekends to $449/night) - a significant increase. We felt "bait and switched", but didn't make a big deal about it.

We did take the balcony room and had a few problems (the phones didn't work and the bed did not have a duvet).

All of these things did get ironed out - (we got a duvet but the phones were out of service during most of our stay), but the worst part was that two of the girls at the front desk were rude and insulting - they definitely need retraining in customer service as well as an attitude adjustment - this made our first couple of days of our much needed relaxing holiday very frustrating and unpleasant.

So my recommendation would be to totally double-check all the details of your room prior to arrival so you avoid disappointment.

Also, the restaurant Christopher's is lovely, but could not accommodate the fact that my doctor has given me strict orders not to eat salt due to a serious medical condition. I tried to explain and order the safest thing on the menu, but it was extremely salty and my husband ate most of it. For an expensive restaurant I would have expected more sensitivity - I can imagine many elderly people with heart conditions, etc. must have restricted diets also. I became quite ill from eating the small amount of food I did eat.

So my suggestion to Christopher's would be to add more healthy choices to the menu - salt-free, saturated fat-free - fresh vegetables, grilled meats, etc. Take peoples' restrictions seriously. I'd like to add that The Lido Beach Grill was fabulous at accommodating my needs, without a problem.

Otherwise, the beach is beautiful, the pools are great, the shopping at St. Armand's is a fun experience, and we kept our positive attitutes in check and had a nice holiday.

We probably wouldn't go back to the Lido Beach Resort - At over $400 a night, it seems very expensive for what you get.

Before my current visit in 02/2008, I stayed here in 02/2004 and gave a very high review. The Lido Beach Resort changed management since my first visit, and I had very high hopes after reading so many positive reviews. I booked suite 5004 with a partial view of the gulf. The room had not been cleaned, the ceiling fan had exposed wires, and the smoke detector was beeping (low battery). I spent the first hour of my stay cleaning sand from the furniture and wiping down the bathroom vanity. I also called the maintenance staff. I paid $519 per night for the room and stayed 4 days. The cleaning staff regularly changed the sheets and towls, but they never cleaned the dirt from the floor which had been there before my visit. The upholstery was dirty and stained, a big turn-off for me. The best part of my stay was the high food quality, both dinner at Christopher's on Lido and the room-service breakfast, even though they forgot my orange juice one morning. The food was better at this hotel than all of the restaurants I tried at St. Armand's Circle combined. I was disappointed with my 02/2008 trip to the Lido Beach Resort. Knowing what I know now, I would have selected the Ritz Carlton. Cleanliness is most important to me in a hotel.

I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Lido Beach Resort and had a wonderful stay. I chose the resort due to the excellent reviews I read on this site. I was travelling with my husband and my 1 year old son. We stayed in an oceanfront suite on the 5th floor and the view just couldn't have been better (see photos!!). The kitchenette worked out really well for us since we fed our son at least 2 meals a day in the room (has large fridge, microwave and dishwasher as well as all the plates, etc that you need - the front desk will give you dish soap and dish towels/rags if you ask, but they were not in the room when we got there). The balcony was very roomy and we spent a lot of time out there. The grounds of the hotel were beatuifully maintained, the pools really clean, there were plenty of chairs and tables around the pool to sit on, as well as lounge chairs at the beach. I loved how the hotel was right on the beach - no crossing the streeet or anything. You could hear the sound of the ocean all the time. Every morning, there was freshly brewed Starbucks coffee in the lobby. We ate by the pools several days - food was enjoyable, but nothing really exceptional. All the servers were very friendly and they brought out a high chair to the pool deck for us right away each time we asked. The only tiny complaint I had about the place is the lack of shady areas around the pool and the beach. Since we had our young son with us, we would have preferred to have him in the shade a little more. But honestly, everything else was just great. St. Armands Circle is a short walk away (10-15 minutes) but as others have mentioned, the walk is not very well lit. Columbia Restaurant on the circle was very good - recommended to us by a couple who told us they spend a month at this resort every year. Guadalupana was excellent for Mexican take-out too. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and share your experience. I am sorry you were unable to find some shade around the pool. We do have umbrellas for all the tables, however, if it is windy, we do not put them up. I am happy to hear everything else was to your liking. Hopefully, you will be able to return again soon. Thank you again for your comments!

This was our girlfriend getaway week and our 4th year staying at the Lido Beach Resort, there were four of us staying in two rooms. . Just when we think it can't get any better, it does! On our arrival we found all new patio furniture by the pools and a sign saying "no children under 18 in this area" by one of the pools. (love kids but also love peace and quiet while on vacation) The entertainment in the pool area on week-ends is also nice. I was on my way out one day and messed up the lock to the safe. I called the front desk and as soon as I hung up the phone there was someone knocking at my door to fix it . The staff is just amazing and always there to assist us in any way and always with a smile . It's nice to see the same faces at the front desk year after year. I'm sure we will be returning in 2009.

We recently stayed at the Lido Beach Resort with our 10 - month old son and found it to be perfect for our needs. We stayed in a one room suite that was very spacious and had great ammenities. The hotel provided us with a portable crib and a high chair! We appreciated how well the staff kept the room clean in spite of our son's attempts to see how much food he could throw on the floor! All the staff was helpful, but I must say we didn't interact with them much because all our needs were met without having to ask. A great place to stay!
