“Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

Sarasota is relatively small and easy to drive around. The Hyatt, relatively close to the bay, was a good hotel- very nice pool, friendly staff, rooms are very nice, good views, bar was good. Can't really go wrong.

Room Tip: You can get WiFi if you pay the "resort" rate for this hotel. Or you can get complimentary...

The location of this hotel was just what we needed. My boss and I recently stayed here for business and to explore the area. This hotel is located by downtown but is off it's own private street so you do not get the traffic you may expect from a downtown hotel. A short drive from the airport. No beachfront with this hotel but Lido beach is close by.
Modern and bright colors in the lobby, hallways and rooms make for an inviting stay. Rooms were clean. Bed was comfortable so I was able to get a good nights sleep. Bathrooms are small and do not offer much room for more than one person trying to get ready. All staff we encountered were helpful and kind. The balcony option is nice, but they offer very little privacy.

Stayed for three nights with my wife. Our room was on the seventh floor which gave us great views of the coast. The rooms are clean and well appointed and the freeform pool area is very good. Would recommend the cocktail bar located near the pool for snacks and, ofcourse, specialty cocktails. There is a valet parking service ($22 per night!) which I don't think is value for money as the car park is literally a few yards away. There is also a resort fee of $15 per day but this entitles guests to free bicycle hire, kayaks, WIFI etc so is value for money. Would recommend.

Room Tip: High floor for great views and peace and quiet.

Thank you very much for your review and recommendation. We receive a lot of positive feedback regarding the value of our new Resort Fee program, so we were happy to hear that you also found good value in the wide variety of inclusions. We will be sure to review your comments regarding valet parking placement with the Guest Services team as well. Thank you again!

This hotel exceeded my expectations in many ways. Firstly, all of the boxes were checked on matters such as cleanliness, in room features, pool, surrounding areas etc. Secondly, the hotel offered additional things such as: a healthy restaurant menu for children (no fries unless requested - something I had been missing during our travels in the US), s'mores around a pit fire for 4 (not healthy, but good fun for a family), well equipped gym etc. I would definitely recommend this hotel both for couples and families. It oes not feel crowded although a big hotel so there is space for everyone. We visited with a 6 and 2 year old.

Room Tip: Ask for bay view. We were given a bay facing room with a closed canopy. If you travel without child...

Having stayed in Sarasota a couple of times previously but not for a long time we deliberated long & hard over where to stay for our latest trip & whilst we could have paid a lot less for similar standard hotels we settled upon the Hyatt as felt the location would allow us more of a "vacation" feel & quickly discovered we had made the right choice.

We spent 10 nights in Sarasota & from the moment we arrived to checking-out our stay at the Hyatt was wonderful. As soon as you pull up & enter the lobby you're greeted by a wonderfully light & airy atmosphere, the theme of which continues throughout the entire hotel. Considering it's location on the marina & the nearby beaches, waterways, etc the hotel veers away from simply being a "business" hotel & has much more of a "resort" feel although there were still plenty of conferences, meetings, weddings etc going on during our stay yet the hotel appeared to perfectly suit all occassions.

Other than the overall theme of the hotel perhaps the biggest plus of staying here is the location. With so many things to do in & around the area we found it a headache (albeit a nice one) when trying to decide where to stay & having spotted almost all of the other hotels that we considered agreed that the Hyatt was perfect for what we wanted. Located directly on a small marina it's a simple 10 minute walk downtown which means that you can easily stroll to a restaurant or bar & have a few drinks. We very much enjoyed this fact & took advantage of this during both the day & night & Marina Jack's restaurant & bar provided us with a perfect place to grab a meal & few drinks on our first night, again only 15 minutes walk away. When you do hop in your car St Armands Circle is less than 5 minutes away & generally the hotel is pretty perfectly located wherever you wish to explore. It does take about 15 minutes to get to I-75 but I'd certainly recommend staying closer to the beaches, downtown, etc than staying more "inland" so to speak. Additionally we had considered a stay in one of the similar level hotels near the airport & whilst this was only 5 minutes away from the Hyatt Regency agreed that a stay at one of these would have been a very different experience from staying on the marina & personally I wouldn't have felt I had "escaped" as I did at the Hyatt.

Our room itself was lovely & after taking a look at a few different rooms settled for a 5th Floor room overlooking the Marina. We had a fantastic view but was also curious to perhaps take a look at the views offered from a high-floor room overlooking the Bay also. The only real criticism in terms of room was a severe lack of drawer space if staying for longer than a few nights. Of a lesser concern, the curtains didn't really pull tight which let light stream into the room at the crack of dawn & due to the hotel's location the shower (or perhaps water itself) had a slightly sulphurous smell & the power of the shower itself wasn't particularly strong but generally the room was ideal.

A major plus point was the staff. Without being insincere, each & every member of staff that we came into contact were fantastic & it stood out. From the Reception Team to guys on the front door & wait- staff, they were all incredibly courteous & professional. Derek who often served us in the restuarant was a great help when it came to local knowledge & an all-round top guy, Victor on the door was fantastic & Jake down at the boat rental facility was a joy to deal with. The Hyatt have really hit a perfect level of customer service with their staff judging by our stay.

We did take the buffet breakfast option with our package when booking & it was worth it for the additional price although should we have been required to have paid the $20 per person standard cost would have felt aggrieved as it was a mixed bag. Good selection & high quality ingredients but much of the food was left out in large quantities & we felt the breakfast would have benefitted by having far less heaped out but restocked more regularly.

The pool area is blissful & never particularly crowded even when busy & late into our stay we took advantage of the rental facility & took kayaks & paddle boards out into the Bay & our stay was enhanced by this. It's easy to look from your window or balcony & think "that looks fun" but never actually find time to do it but we are so glad we did ... both times we ventured out we loved it & when kayaking saw a manatee a few metres ahead of us. Paddle boardings easier than it looks but far easier in the marina than in the Bay !!!

The area itself is fantastic. From the beaches, to St Armands Circle & Downtown & further afield like Myakka State Park, the Rays baseball, Busch Gardens even shopping, there really is so much to do in & around the area that we loved our stay at the Hyatt & should we return can't think of staying anyway else really.

Room Tip: Higher floors WILL offer better views at this hotel. We stayed on the 5th Marina Side which was idea...

It was extremely helpful for us to read through it from a guest perspective standpoint and I can imagine our future potential guests will find it very helpful as well. We will be sure to share your comments regarding specific team members so they can be recognized for having such a positive impact on your experiences. As an aside, I am personally quite fond of the bay side views as the sunsets are spectacular every evening! Should your travels bring you back to the west coast of Florida, we hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back. Thank you again!

First, let me disclose that my husband is diamond (or whatever the top status is) with Hyatt, so we (being his wife and 2 kids) get to enjoy the perks of Daddy's constant travel. Hyatt treats their status customers well. But aside from that, I think this is a great hotel. As we drove up, the exterior wasn't impressive (compared to the Ritz across the canal) but they've done quite a nice remodel inside. We had a suite, which was fantastic, and I liked that we had a little balcony with chairs overlooking the water. The staff was so very attentive and kind... even the ones not knowing our status (always a bit cynical when traveling with my husband...). I hope I'm remembering his name correctly, but Derek, in the restaurant, was far and away the best employee we had interaction with; so nice and helpful and a wealth of information about the area. Breakfast was very good. The pool was fantastic for our kids, with a zero entry and a waterfall they could swim under. We loved being able to use bikes, kayaks and paddle boards (with the resort fee) although you are on a little canal that leads to the bay so it there isn't much to look at other than buildings. The beach is so close. We actually stayed 1 night at the Hyatt then moved over to Siesta Key for 2 nights and wound up coming back to the Hyatt for our last night (movie night in the pool!). We would definitely stay here again if we're in the area.
