“Hyatt Regency Sarasota - location and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

This one surprised us in many ways. First, it has that sunny Florida feeling all about it...upon arrival, definitely towards noon, complimentary pink lemonade in the lobby to quench our thirst!
Easier to read, my list of likes and dislikes here below:
Dislikes:
1) semi soft mattresses.
2) ventilation outlet above closet in room: promptly serviced after I noticed dust caked in.
3) no distinction between daytime and nighttime dining atmosphere in the only restaurant. Tablecloths would make a difference since chinaware although beautiful, is chunky and plonks in front of the guest if server delivering a big order. Food not bad by the way!
4) not enough lighting on path from pool to coin-operated laundry room.
Likes:
1) friendly atmosphere all around.
2) complimentary bottled water in the lobby early morning for joggers and non joggers!
3) Starbucks corner in the bar area for coffee and breakfast on the run (easy on the wallet too!)
4) spacious rooms and ample storage (shelves where coffee maker sits on...a huge plus!)
5) wash basin separated from bath/shower and toilet.
6) bathroom amenities generously replenished and yes, even travel size toothpastes!!!!
7) generous lighting in the room (love well lit rooms when the sun has set).
8) complimentary shuttle bus to downtown and charming St. Armand Sq.
9) small pets welcome apparently.
10) nice pool and pool area...hotel building does not seem to cast a shadow over pool area which is a huge bonus.
11) coin-operated washers and dryers
12) covered and open carparks
13) strong wifi connection
14) location location location!
15) will return!

Room Tip: Apparently rooms facing the pool cost more but I say that the ones facing the other side are just as...

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. All of the points (both suggestions and compliments) that you have made have been passed along to the appropriate departments to be acted upon or taken into consideration when updating the hotel again. Our goal is to stay out in front of the issues that you have experienced but by you bringing them to light, we can work that much harder to impress other guests and you, upon your return to our hotel.

Rooms are big and comfortable, very quiet. The hotel location is great, near downtown, Siesta Key and other nice areas. The service was great, especially at the bar. This hotel was in the recommended list for the Sarasota 1/2 marathon, and it was just a 5 minutes walk to the finish line. Totally recommend this hotel for any type of traveler.

Thanks for your review! We do think our location is quite good in Sarasota as you can walk downtown or ump in a car for a quick beach trip in Siesta Key, or you can jump in out complimentary shuttle and go over to St Armand's and Lido Beach. We hope to see you back soon!

I called weeks before our vacation to ensure a king room with a connecting double since we are traveling with children. Rather than reserve online I called the hotel and confirmed our rooms. We reserved two balcony ocean view connecting rooms. Because I am a gold passport member I received an email the morning of my arrival offering me web check in as a special gold passport privilege. I decided to take advantage of the offer and checked in online. About an hour later I received an email and a text informing me that the web check in failed and that I would have to check in at the desk when I arrived. When we got to the hotel I was informed that because my rooms weren't available when I tried to check in online they cancelled the rooms out of my reservation. They then told me that they had nothing else available to meet our needs. They knew we had children but still wanted us to stay in two rooms on different floors. Eventually they found two connecting double rooms on the first floor overlooking the parking lot, smelling like smoke. The worst part was how Unaccommodating the manager was. She was unwilling to help us and refused to admit that the hotel had done something wrong. Instead she blamed us for checking in online, a special service offered to gold members. Hyatt should be ashamed of what happened and how it was handled. We will not be staying in a Hyatt any time soon. Beware if you have children. They don't care.

Room Tip: Don't check in online!!! You will lose your confirmed reservation!!!

Hi Jodi,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our property. It was a pleasure speaking with you on 3/26/13. Please know that we understand how inconvenient this was for you and apologize we were not able to accommodate your rooms for last night. I am so happy to hear the hotel was able to accommodate your connecting rooms for tonight and that you were happy with the compensation offered. If you would like to discuss this further, I would be happy to speak with you directly.

Sincerely,

Ryan, Guest Relations Associate

We stayed here for a family wedding and everything was great. Staff was professional and quick to meet our needs. The bar served a great selection of cocktails and the pool was area was very nice too. The room was updated and clean, we especially enjoyed having a balcony. We will stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are actually looking at adding a few drink to our pool bar menu so when you come back, you can check those out. The staff also takes great pride in providing excellent service so thank you for pointing that out.

We stayed here for 5 nights in early March. I was thrilled when I saw our glassed 'balcony'. A glass alcove overlooking the pool area which was beautiful. It was chilly so Loved that I could sit here,, read, and look out!! The room was generous, very clean and serviced promptly. Could not have asked for better service from the staff and enjoyed the Happy Hour cocktails and snacks.

Room Tip: Ycu can choose between and outside balcony or an indoor glassed alcove. Recommend rooms overlooking...

Decided to take a last minute trip to Sarasota, and were very pleased to be able to get a reservation on such short notice that included a 4th night for free. Hard to beat that! Although we arrived hours ahead of check-in time, our room was available. Huge King room with a balcony on the 6th floor, great view of the pool, marina and out to the Bay. Room was very nicely appointed and extremely comfortable. Loved the huge closet, and the fact that the nice big sink area was separate from the rest of the bathroom. Made for a most convenient dressing area. The rooms are well insulated from a noise perspective, even though we were opposite the elevator, you wouldn't have known it. The hotel is very centrally located for whatever you might want to do. You can walk to downtown, and it's just a short car ride to beaches and other attractions.
The pool area is small but very attractive and we always found a place to sit. The Hurricane Hut next to the pool offers a nice selection of food and drinks. Currents restaurant offers a nice selection for breakfast and good service. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My only negative was the very large business group who completely inundated the small lobby bar in the evening. But, otherwise, a great stay and worth the price.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor and view toward the Marina.

I stayed here 5 nights for a conference. The lobby is beautiful. The service was very good. It sits on a marina surrounded by some condos and a few other hotels. The pool and surrounding area is fantastic. Directly next door is what appears to be a closed up building and a large vacant lot (?). My room needed a little TLC. I believe the place recently had a huge makeover but perhaps the reduced conference rates precluded me from staying in one of the madeover rooms (????). The bathroom was tiny. There were some loose bathroom fixtures and the rug was a tad worn. The bathroom had some peeling paint around the shower and the tub had some chips and cracks here and there. The bed was very comfortable. The balcony was awesome.

Thank you for your feedback. The entire hotel was renovated in 2008. While there have been a few minor facelifts to the property, all of the rooms were done at the same time so other than a balcony/no balcony or ADA/non-ADA room or a suite, all of the rooms are the same. Our Engineering and Housekeeping departments work hard to maintain our facility so your comments will certainly be shared and improvements made to your room specifically. The vacant lot that you are referring to used to be the site of the Quay. There are discussion to build on that lot but nothing has been confirmed at this point. Thanks again for staying with us and we hope to see you back soon.
